do these aftermarket ECUs have to be specific to the car? or is it just the connecting looms that are specific?

Mine had a brake out loom , so it would have needed wiring in .. but I think link do plug n play looms now 8-[ .. its basicly a box , the cars loom plugs in one side the link plugs in the other .. many years since i researched this :(

Edit .. not car specific .

Don't get overly hung up on knock control- a LOT of folk don't even use the feature because they don't want to pay to have it set up on the dyno

hmmm, i suppose if there's no det during mapping then there's no need to worry :-k

I'll have a look at power FCs as well. been looking all morning and it's more about availability than anything else, I can;t find a single ECU for the mr2 other than a power FC and some HKS thing i've never heard of.

Must admit the hole time i owned my car it never once went in to knock control mode (bad gas mode) .. had lovehorsepower knock lights fitted .. still its nice to now its there .. could save your engine ... just my thoughts 8-[

Safe tune plus water/meth .. you should be more than fine .

just check out JDs build, I'm aiming for the same power level he had, i originally planned to take the stock injectors to their limits but I simply don't have the bottle :pale: so, turbo is sorted, just need to sort injectors and ecu. i wish I had some of this cash just now :(

It is a shame you have rushed into getting that turbo, they are an old design and not the best.
If you had got one with the new GTX compressor you would have the power you want but with a lower boost.

this is probably an interim turbo mate, I'll most likely buy a new GTX series one (at a later date), :thumleft:

I didn't realise the PFC didn't have knock control, that's out too, I can't run the car like that, my B;itz even has knock control

Agree with Bob, fitting a properly sized modern double ball bearing turbo will give you exactly what you are wanting. If you can't stretch to a GTX at the moment you could fit a Garrett GT28RS - which is still a very good responsive DBB turbo - and if you want more power at a later date then upgrade to the GTX internals (the GT and GTX share the same housings).

right, so on the T B D evelopments site and they have power fcs for £680?? sounds like my solution if I try not to think about det control :D

I might list my blitz access for sale in the next few days, my problem in the meantime would be having no ECU to use the car, they also sell the injectors i need too. does anyone have a spare rev+ ecu i could borrow for a few months?? there's no way i'm away to buy one

I can stretch to it come feb/march time (as soon as I free up this cash). I'll deffo be going for something as modern as possible :thumleft:

that website is VERY old, i would not go on those prices, or even assume tim has ANY in stock either.

contact him first before going to buy it online.
i can almost bet they are not that price anymore!

Same argument as I gave you last time for turbos- GTX all the way :thumleft:

I disagree. The power FC may be an older option for engine management, but it's still a great and capable ecu.

I'll keep an eye out, there's no rush for it at all, it's odd because PFCs for other cars are peanuts :( yeah i'll take your advice regarding turbo, as i said the TD05 will probably end up used as an interim turbo, :thumleft:

Just had a PM from a local member who uses a G3, says i can use his maps etc....so it'll be a G3 for sure, better to pool resources where possible and all that, plus he knows a lot more about all this than I do!!

Great in it's day- sure thing, totally agree. Capable- yeah, it'll run your engine just fine.

Great by 2014 standards? Especially considering the price they seem to command, and what you could get for the cash?

Nope- not even close.

Just as one example, compare the resolution on the pfc to the motec M400, or the Syvecs :thumleft:

Apples and oranges comparing Pfc to motec or syvecs.

Pfc go for about £500 second hand, and for what shep is after would be perfect.

Simon hicks was running a gt3076 on a Pfc with over 500bhp.

So yeah, like I said. The Pfc May be old, but more than still capable.

In addition, show me where to get a motec or syvecs for pfc money!

That being the case, if I was you I'd use the time between now and then researching and sourcing the parts you'll need and then do the install properly the first time. It just seems a waste of time and money modifying the turbo you've bought, fitting it, fabricating a downpipe, and IC piping, getting it mapped etc. then a couple of months down the line fitting a different turbo and then perhaps having to modify the downpipe, IC piping to fit the new turbo and then getting it remapped.

Plus the weather between now and then won't be ideal for enjoying the extra power.

Yeah, i think i'm gonna build up the engine in my garage over winter, fit the TD05 to the engine in the car as it is and work on the loose engine in the garage, think i'll just go forged right away with the other engine now. Whatever i do i don't want to drag it out, i want to have it done by march, i also don't want the car off the road for any amount of time. Thanks for all the input fellas, all very useful, keep your eyes peeled for a link G3 :)
