I used the "no uk equivalent" like usual and he said the law had changed and that every car post 1992 has to now have a cat.

I saw the law change about diesels online , but nothing about passenger cars.

Is he talking out of his :cyclops: ?

The guy is a xxxx. Appeal.

ETA

The law changed last year - all cars originally fitted with a cat must now have a cat present.

HOWEVER

Since the MR2 Turbo, being an import, is not listed in the tester's database, he has no way of knowing if it had a cat fitted from new. Since he has to give the car the benefit of doubt, in reality nothing has changed.

that's a last resort really, just tell him to look in his ''17th edition in service emissions standard'' book as supplied by vosa to all test stations (or online) page 5 paragraph 5.

Absolutely report him - I had a similar problem with some gentlemen that flat-out refused to even look at their book, even if I brought a printout along so in the end I took it along to mrturbotom's work and he made sure it got done properly. I really cannot stress how much you need to make sure the book is thrown at sh**ty MOT testers.

its a shame because the lad who used to work there had a rev2 turbo, so I never had any problems.

not gonna do any reporting, I just wont go there again.

I emailed VOSA about this approximately a year ago. They replied and confirmed my car (1994 Rev 3 GT T-Bar turbo) should not be subject to a cat test.

If others would find it useful, I can post the response in this thread?

Post if you wish, but if a tester can't be arseed to read his manual, i doubt he'd know which way up to hold your letter.
