Cheers guys Fluxdirect quoted me a half decent price online when rang them up they tried to renege on the deal by saying I put wrong things on the online quote to what they had things like my job and mileage.

Anyway the guy came back not only with a highet quote but the stipulations he put on it made me laugh.

-Letter from employer to confirm my job.
-Picture of my house proving it has a garage .
-Pic of the dash showing current mileage
-Mot certificate
and more. Personally they were trying to avoid having to insure me. All this hassle for the privilage of me having to pay them hundreds for basically a piece of paper and shoming up on the MID website.

Whilst I love the idea, guess who would end up footing the bill ultimately............ US the policyholders. The company would just increase the premiums to cover their costs.

I was the one quoted an additional cost on my premium for garaging my car in Central London rather than leaving it on the road and I couldn't quite believe the reason but what I have found is that it pays to shop around and move from company to company. Keeps them on their toes as well.

I agree a limited mileage Classic policy is a good move and also a second car policy can be cheaper but shop around. I have just picked up a new broker who advertises on another forum and with a V6 upgrade and protecting my NCB a year before it's maximum I only ended up paying about £150 more than last year.

22 years old - just switched over to the tubby which cost an extra £70 till Dec for cover.

The tubby is a 93' so I'll be looking to get classic insurance come December.

Been quoted between £700-£1000 with 4 years NCB on normal insurers for a year.

It's definitely heavily influenced by where you live. I used to live in Greenwich, insurance there was about £400 with 10 years NCB and a £300 excess - I was 32 at the time.

I moved to Highgate a few months later and the insurance instantly went up to £850 with a £500 excess! Highgate is a safe area but it is included as the Camden postcode area which definitely isn't hence the huge price hike!

I moved to Cheltenham a couple of years ago and the insurance has dropped to £240 and a £100 excess. Car is parked on the street which bizarrely can make the insurance cheaper than on a driveway. Reason, when you car is on the street a thief won't know which house the keys are in where as on a driveway it's obvious.

I'd be a little wary of the cheap deals offered by the likes of Admiral. Having worked in insurance in the past, I know they have little or no experience of insuring specialist cars which means when it comes to claim time they'll often pay out significantly less that you deserve. They're all about getting your business onto their books!

Torero you are right ultimately it would be us footing that bill the voice logic thank you.

I guess I'm not the only one thats had issues with insurance as someone said earlier its not an exact science. I just probably felt over victimised. Good to get an idea what others experience has been so thanks.

On a cheerier note I've realised I get given way a on the road a lot more by other users and a lot of appreciative nods even from guys in Porsches and Exiges. Only problem is makes me want to keep the car even more as a weekend toy. Guess I'll enjoy as a daily this summer and make a decision come September time. Might have to cut back on other luxuries lets hope Bradford don't have another two trips to wembley lol.

Or could alternatively ask for a raise on second thoughts more chance of Bradord winning the fa cup lol.

www.classicline.co.uk here, i recall a quote from a classic car ins Footman and James pretty sure if you insure a MR2 as a classic car (which it isn't) these policies leave you with no no claims after two years, same situation as if you drop out of insuring a car or emigrate this two year ruling applies. Anyone else hear of this rule.

This is correct, what actually happens is that most classic car policies don't use NCB discount so you have to shelve them. The problem is as you say that after a couple of years you lose them completely. It is exactly this that made me switch away from classic insurance last year. However SKY were able to match the cost of my classic policy though the car is SDP only and limited to 5k per year.

If the MR2 is a second car then I think classic insurance is a great fit. If not then it probably better to stick to a standard policy which leaves your options open for future car purchases.

Classicline have told me that they would store my ncb and should I decide to leave them would send me a letter endorsing the amount I had previously.

Classicline have told me that they would store my ncb

If that's anything like the service Footman and James offers, regardless of whether they store it or not, it will still be ineffective after a couple of years. This policy isn't set by the classic car insurer but is set by the subsequent insurer. If the ncb hasn't been attached to a policy it will become ineffective. Storing it just means you don't lose it straight away - at least that is my understanding.

It might be a good idea to check if you believe that storing it will keep it alive indefinitely.

NCB is lost after 2 years with most insurers, letter or not.

Adrian Flux do an inbetween ltd mileage policy where you can keep your NCB

Give them a call. Limited mileage to 3k, 4.5k, 7k I think are options.

Fully comp less than £200 PA - I do live in a postcode friendly area tho

Adrin Flux quoted me a price online when I rang them up they told me they had an issue and would get back to me.

I'm still waiting for that call they didn't even bother getting back to me. Most likely cos the quote went sky high but would have been nice to at least have been told that.

Call them. We are forever trying to call people who do not answer phones, give incorrect contact details etc. Flux are the UK's largest private car broker, if anyone can help, it will be them. You'd be silly to write a company off because they haven't returned one phone call.
