So i stupidly ordered some oil from Toyota (thought i would go oem just like the filter) and they have given me this semi synthetic 5w30.
What should i be running for the summmer 10w40 fully synthetic or should the na only need semi? Any advice welcome

should be 10w/40 semi, the oil they have supplied you is for the vvti engine 1999 onwards.

or you could get some ester synthetic, even better

It's a 3S NA. It was designed in the eighties to run part-synth. Why not run part-synth?
I get the point of buying ester synth if you have a turbo or something like that, but I never used to bother on my old NA, save yer spondoons.

Now your confusing me
I genuinely think the car will spite for me for years of neglect and blow if I do get decent oil.....
To the supermarket for cooking oil I go!

In a turbo 100% but think ester would be a waste in an NA.
Logue how much more is fully synthetic over semi? A quick look on opie has the cheapest 10w40 at 19 quid, the link I put up is 24 quid hardly any difference.

I've been putting semi synth in my rev1 for the last 14 yrs and 150,000 miles... I think it's sufficient.

Such a cool post.
Re: [Mk2] [NA] I think Mr T has given me the wrong Oil
Starting this year Toyota uses only 5W30 on all engines instead of 10W40, they say it's better, but when you car already consumes a lot of oil it becomes worse we noticed

Interesting cheers for the replies, you lot are a helpful bunch on this forum cheers, I will be going down the decent semi synthetic 10w40 route
