Hi guys, I'm able to get a deal on some Enkei RP01's and I'm just wondering what the best tyre fitment is for handling?
They're 16"
Front 7J, ET35 (205 50 16)
Rear 8J, ET38 (225 50 16)
Is this a good wheel offset/stagger for the MR2?
tyres on them are brand new, but I didn't think 50 profile all round sounded correct
Cheers

You want 45 all round to match original, 50 will put your speedo out and yes 205/225 is perfect, the 205s up front will remove some understeer.

Re: Tyre fitment for 16" Enkei?
I went for 205/50/16 and 225/45/16 on my 7/8J Enkeis
This keeps both the width and profile stagger that the car has as standard which ensures that the speedo isn't massively out and that the tyres look the same thickness front to back from the side.
To answer your question directly, yes, those wheels are pretty much a perfect fit, aside from I'd rather have a 45 at the rear.

Re: Tyre fitment for 16" Enkei?
Thanks for both of your replies, Marf that looks like a good setup!
I can't remember if I read somewhere about 215 40 16 (7J) front and 225 45 16 (8J) on the MR2, as to raise the rear up which would in turn, put more weight on the front. Is this commonly done?
I have a feeling the 17's my car came on had a similar setup which seemed to work well, although I don't have anything to compare it to

Thanks, having had 15 16 and 17 inch wheels, 16s definitely offer the best comprimise between feel, handling and comfort.

Sounds like guff to me.
(215/100)*40=86mm tyre height
(225/100)*45=101.25mm tyre height
(205/100)*50=102.5mm tyre height
(225/100)*45=101.25mm tyre height
So whilst a 215/40 225/45 combo would give you less tyre height at the front than a 205/50 225/45 combo, and therefore the front would sit a little lower, I don't see any benefit in doing that. Why would you want to put more weight over the front end anyways?
IMO 205/50 225/45 is a great combo and very neutral.

Front end grip I guess? My car has been polybushed and corner weighted at TrackDev anyhow so I'm happy with the weight over the front wheels
Think I'm going to purchase these Enkei's then try go with your suggestion!

Re: Tyre fitment for 16" Enkei?
With decent tyres and a 205 up front, front end grip isnt an issue.
I've had both 195 and 205 up front with a 225 rear.
195s understeer when you turn in quickly, 205s barely give a whiff of understeer before the front end bites.

I ran 205/50/16 225/50/16 for a fair few miles on Falken FK452s and goodyear GSD3s and never had a problem with handling even a tad lower than stock it only rubbed on wierd dippy bits on the m25 doing fairly quick motorway speeds.
Currently got 235/50/16 on the rears but this car has its arches rolled 225/50/16 shouldnt need it although my rear offset was a +35

Which tyre do you have on the rear in a 235?

T1-R, I got em off Kongaroo whos king of the wierd size tyre lol
Re: Tyre fitment for 16" Enkei?
Aha, I didn't know you could get them in that size.
Re: Tyre fitment for 16" Enkei?
Forgot to say my car sits a bit lower than normal as its on Tein Superstreet coilovers. This shouldn't affect the tyre sizes right?
Re: Tyre fitment for 16" Enkei?
Not sure, I'm on standard suspension.

Mine was lowered on KG/MM springs and atm TRD springs, which is low but not completely slammed
Re: Tyre fitment for 16" Enkei?
The only issue you would would have Alex is putting too wide a wheel on the front as the teins are a tight fit, or were at least with my budget rims.
The setup Marf suggests up there ^ should work fine. If not a small spacer would make them clear no problems.
Not stalking BTW, was looking in the for sale section. Just got a promotion at work LMAO

Only with weaksauce offsets. Space those puppies out.
