Springs - Eiback to stock

Just need to say thanks to Perculis who gave me a demo of his car. His standard springs and shocks were pretty impressive especially given they're age so I'm seriously thinking about changing springs now.

Oh and the 2zz engine also gets a big thumbs up as does your driving mate, falling back in love with the MK1 as I type. After chasing round after MK3's last week in Scotland I can see now I still have the right car, just need to drive it harder!

Any time, Nice to have an excuse for a drive!

Mine have done approx 90k and I don't have any issues with bottoming out or bouncing - may be something else?

Just out of interest, what springs do you have?

Anyone know a good place to buy stock springs? I just checked Fensport and they don't list them anymore.

Mine were the ones that came with the Koni's mate, lesjfors or however they are spelt.

I have got under steer but its due to my poor choice of tyres on the front.

Have you reduced the length of the bumpstops on the front? I found that I had to remove about an inch of the bump stop as with it standard length you would not be utilising more than about 10mm of spring travel. That should let you back the dampers off to a more sensible level without bottoming out the suspension.

Low speed damping has a much more profound effect on ride quality than spring stiffness. My hillclimber runs wheel frequencies of about 2.5Hz which is around double that of the MR2 with eibach springs and with the correct damping it will glide over most sufaces without an issue.

How much did you get your Ad08s for in the end Peter? I seriously need some better tyres on my fronts to sort out my understeer

Just asked Toyota for a price on a new set of springs and they wanted over £400 + VAT; not suprised really, don't know why I bother.

Those ones on Ebay don't seem to be branded.

Just wanted to report back on progress, I bought some KYB springs off Ebay for £124. Have fitted them now and had the alignment done.

Really glad I did this, the car handles better on stock springs in my opinion, better balanced overall and the car seems to just glide round corners. The big surprise though is grip, not really any different to the Eibachs so no performance loss.

Feel like I wasted my time for 5 years with the Eibachs, well pleased now though.

You could have tried Jamex Ian
