Hey guys,
I've received my boss kit today to fit my new steering wheel but I'm having problems getting the horn button to work.
The boss kit comes with a wire that I'm guessing is grounded via the boss kit which touches the steering wheel thread.
Can anyone tell me if they have had similar problems and managed to fix them and also, does the horn work when the ignition is off?
Thanks!
Gianni

Re: After Market Steering Wheel Horn Help.
I had a similar problem.
The horn button is held into the wheel by a couple of springs clips, these also provide the earth when the horn is pushed. To get mine to work I had to remove the paint off the inside of the appature in the wheel so that the spring clips made a good contact. No problems since.
Give it a go.

Thread revival here, but has anyone got any experience with the boss kit that paulsims sells on eBay?
Have just started fitting it, and I'm having an issue with the interface between the boss and the little (brass) spring loaded connection in the steering column for the horn! Let me know asap as I want to fit my new OMP wheel!

Re: After Market Steering Wheel Horn Help.
I seem to have a similar problem to you with a Paul Simms S/W boss Matt
It seems that the little brass brush doesn't reach to the circular plate on the boss
Havn't found the answer to the problem yet
Another problem is that the indicators don't cancel with that boss fitted

Re: After Market Steering Wheel Horn Help.
No the indicators won't cancel - the underside of the boss does not match the standard steering wheel- so therefore the kit is not a mk1 mr2 compatible kit as advertised. Have contacted the seller, waiting to hear back from him. I'm going to see if I can return it, if not it will be a matter of modifying the boss... I'll let you know what I find out
Re: After Market Steering Wheel Horn Help.
Hi Matt, got your PM. I still have my Momo boss but was trying to sell it with the wheel. Over the years the answer seems to be the momo 7714 boss is the only one that fits perfect and has no issues with space and indicator cancelling.

Re: After Market Steering Wheel Horn Help.
I never did get mines working.. I always put it down to the spacer I had to fit so my fingers didn't hit the indicators.. Hopefully at my next MOT the guys will get it all wired up.

Do you still have the box that the kit came in Matt ?
On mine is written "Max II Steering Boss Kit Universal Type"
Then iin a little white panel is printed "T-12 TOYOTA"
Seems a bit of a contradiction stating universal & then Toyota
MR2 is not mentioned

Re: After Market Steering Wheel Horn Help.
I use Momo Boss and wheel and extension adapter and all works fine.
I had lots of problems with the momo boss not working properly initially because it kept going too far down the steering column and crushing the purple plastic indicator ring with the studs that go into the back of the boss.
The only solution was to replace the steering column because the threaded end was all a bit mangled, didn't look obvious, but the threads weren't nice and clean. When I put another column in, the Momo boss fitted perfect and everything worked.
You have to have a silver ring that goes inside the steering wheel to make the horn push fit tight, otherwise it just drops straight out.
The extender that I got with the Momo boss kit fits on the steering wheel side of the boss so doesn't interfere with anything on the column side and is just a 15 mm ring and 6 longer allen bolts to reach through the extender into the boss.
Like I say, it all works fine. It was an expensive upgrade though.
Something like £200 for the Momo 350mm suede wheel another £70 ish for the boss and another £15 for the extender.
But I prefer the wheel to the old one and the previous boss was a home brew affair and wouldn't work with the new wheel.

Sounds like the same boss that I got from memory. I returned it and got a full refund from Paul, he did this fairly quickly with no fuss
Godd luck!
Re: After Market Steering Wheel Horn Help.
Thanks Matt. Will contact Paul & see what he says
It may be suitable for a Toyota but not for a MR2 Mk1
The horn contact ring and the holes for the signal cancel ring to register in are wrongly sized/spaced

ask what the no. is on this as the early MK2 MR2 uses the same boss as the MK1 you're looking for code L7714

Re: After Market Steering Wheel Horn Help.
7714 is the momo boss for the mk1. I have one for sale with a OMP Super Quadro 320mm D shape steering wheel.
