check connector terminals

Post by vashy »

I was setting my ignition timing, and was wondering, what do the other terminals do, apart from T?

from Lauren's post in the scanner thread, it looks like Ox gives you the oxy sensor output on JDM cars.

there's a TEM, ECT, B+ and some other intriguing letters...

there's an IG- which looks like you could get an rpm signal from it...

Might be summat in the bgb on that front Vash, I'll have a look when I rev the computer up later. I have a feeling one of the (b+) might run the fuel pump but don't take that as gospel. Lol

Here's what I know and have found out about the check connector

Fp = Fuel Pump
E1 = Ground
Cco = ?
T = ECU pin 9 plug M
+B = Battery Voltage from EFI relay and connects to ECU pin 1 & 8 plug L
Vf = ECU pin 17 plug M (oxygen sensor feedback voltage)
Ox = Oxygen Sensor
Ig- = RPM signal
E2 = From ECU (supply ?) to sensors (water/air temp, MAP,TPS, CO adjustment resistor)
Tem = ?
Ect = ECT (Automatic gearbox )
--------------------------------------------
Ect to E1 Read ECT fault codes with the overdrive light
+B to Fp Fuel pump test
T to E1 read ECU fault codes
Oxygen sensor voltage can be tested between VF and E1

Cco and Tem are complete unknowns, can't find any mention of them anywhere. If anyone does know what they are for please let me know

My info matches Jimi's. A couple of extra points.

E1 is indeed Earth and is connected to O2 sensor and AFM (where applicable).

I believe Tem is related to the EGR gas temperature sensor from something I've read on MR2.com, (I have a link to a post that no longer exists. :( ) but as that's California only, it's pointless anyway.

I have no idea what Cco is - I didn't even have it in my notes, so that's a new one for me. :+:

I think the Cco pin connects to the engine warning light - so you can read the error codes from that pin instead of the dash light :-k

The only manuals I have are the 1985-87 Haynes for USA spec and extracts from a 1987 4A-F / 4A-GE European spec engine manual on a disk

Is there any way I can get access to the BGB please ?

CCO pin is something a lot of Toyota ECUs have. In the manuals it's literally labeled as 'TO CHECK CONNECTOR'. From that I'd assume it's something that Toyota's diagnostic kit can use. Have a look in the threads from when the ECUs were being disassembled by Jeremy, I would assume it carries part of the serial datastream or somesuch that he tapped into.

The warning light would be labelled W if it were there, I think?

copies of the BGB (official paper copies) turn up on ebay quite often, it is forbidden to talk of non official cd copies thay may or may not exist on this forum, but if I was looking to buy a cd of any type I'd look at an internet auction site

terminals inside the check connector relate to the pin names of the ECU, they simply give you easy access to common signal lines

Some do, some don't.
Can't find Cco and TEM on any of the MK1 ECU pin outs that I have.

CCO pin is something a lot of Toyota ECUs have. In the manuals it's literally labeled as 'TO CHECK CONNECTOR'. From that I'd assume it's something that Toyota's diagnostic kit can use.

I think you may be correct, I've also seen Tem on other Toyota diagnostic connectors, I wonder if it may be similarly related to the diagnostic tool.

Finally found the answer to the Cco mystery - it connects to the Exhaust Temp Sensor according to http://www.club4ag.com/faq_and_tech_pag ... 090-91.htm

Only fitted to ECUs on cars with a catalyst
