SC brakes.....

Post by coanda »

Hi,

are the SC brake components the same as the Mk.1b components - discs/calipers and pads?

I need to change them this week so am in the market for pads and discs.

I notice ebay have brembo discs and pads for the mk.1 - anyone ever used them?

Cheers!

Ha! Well the brembo rear discs are on the way but the ebay seller listed stock of brembo fronts that they didnt have. I noticed another seller doing brembo fronts so will try them, otherwise it is off to fensport for a reaming unless anyone can suggest another reliable supplier.

I just hope everything I ordered turns up on friday!

Can't you get them from brakes international or your local motor factors?

I found another set of fronts on ebay - lets see how we get on with that....

But yeah - if that fails it'll be brakes int. as fensport are either very expensive or very very expensive.....

Though I do remember reading, the Supercharger, maybe has a extra brake booster, within the braking system, but I may be wrong

SC servo and master cylinder are different from the NA ones ( 1b servo is bigger than the 1a one too, but the mc is the same )

Well, the brembo discs have been an utter dead end - don't go and buy any from anyone on ebay, they don't have them!

Brakes int. to the rescue.

I'm getting a set of calipers from a Mk.1b this week so I shall refurb those in the evenings this week and replace the ones on the car, due to a lack of free time. I'll then refurb the ones from the car and put them back on at a point in the near future.

You could always try and find a set of ST165 Celica twin pot calipers - they are a direct fit and even fit under the 14" wheels

Too late! they are paid for!I will keep it in mind for next month - do they work with the standard Mk.1b discs and do they take unmodified pads?

Silly questions, but they sounds like a good idea but I don't want to get into having to mill down discs and grind pads!!

Standard disks, but for some reason performance pads for them are rare. However Subaru Impreza/Legacy pads fit if you grind off a couple of small tabs

The Celica single-pot caliper has about 25% more piston area (front bias) for what it's worth, also remember that the Gen 6 Celicas have a 55mm bore not 54mm like the AW11.

Hope that helps! :thumleft:

I thought Gen 3, 4 and 5 were 54mm, 6 and 7 were 55mm? (but all take 54mm bore wheels on a step)

I don't have my notes with me to check.

Front brakes done....not refurbed but new discs and pads.

This may be of interest...The pads were EBC red stuff and I didn't have a problem using them through the Winter months at all (I didn't know they were on). They were beginning to fade quite quickly as there wasn't much pad compound left, but they were still operating ok. Also, they didn't wear evenly. One pad was much thinner than the other on each wheel (the inboard ones). And they were also wearing at an angle. I guess this leads to a need for the calipers to be completely refurbed?
