Yeah maybe that 720 graph isnt the best to show my point.
I'l see if i can find the graph where the the ct20 and gt3071r are overlayed.
The graphs were nigh on identicle, with the 3071 matching th ct20 until the gt30 took over at around 3.5k.
My point is you can have biggish power at 450+ but still spool similar to a standard CT series turbo.
Ive been in a couple of biggish powered n/a cars.
Post your graph up and see what its making/where it spools to compare to the monster graph above under 4.5k.

i dont care about lag, infact its addictive waiting for it to obliterate your internal organs, just be in the right gear if love a responsive car.

Thought I'd copy and paste another thread so people have an idea of the grief I went through to get here
\/
absolutely over the moon!!!
kept it quiet till now but i had the car mapped at surrey rolling road today!
with the man that is Ryan at 2bar tuning!!!!
big thanks to him!
car was instantly awsome!
previously made 342hp fly at 1.2bar when it was imported. id guess 280ish at the wheels.
i then bought the car, and ryan tweaked it to 1.4bar on the road tho i dont think it made a great deal more power due to the reasons below.
since discovered after this tweak about 1year later it has been out a cam tooth all this time! the exhaust mani was a mess, so i got a custom 1 off made for the car/turbo, wastegate valve was loose, sorted that, fitted rogue lid fans, spal fan for ic, and thats the only real mods to the car bar a bov.
swapped in a walbro for the dead GTR pump i found in the tank and here we are.
anyway, straight on the dyno, produced awsome figs for wastegate pressure
280ATW at 0.85bar (wastegate pressure)!!! 335ish fly
300ATW at 1bar 355ish fly
325ATW at 1.25bar, 385ish fly
343ATW at 1.45bar!! 403hp! and an awsome 360lb!!
didnt throw any more boost at it than that.
ryan was AMAZED at the torque this car produced, gobsmacked really!
restrictions for more boost/power is namely the size of the exhaust housing, the fact i still have a CAT in there! be it a high flow phoenix power CAT.....
also was only seeing temps of 25degrees!!!! through all the pulls!
sweet intake temps to for a sidemount ic (phoenix power ic)
car feels great.
was raining so a bit difficult to judge, but its insane at the mo, scares me to death which is what i wanted!
In terms of what's next. Maybe refurb the wheels, a blow over would be ideal. Some arbs and a few other suspension goodies. But for now am happy with the performance!
Even at low 0.85bar of boost it making close to 340flywheel, so will always be a joy to drive

Re: JDM 1998 Revision 5 GT turbo!! 403hp,360lb
updates over the last few months.....
lots of driving and using the sucka!!!!!
went to santa for my first experience of drag racing
my best run
12.88 at 116.5mph with a poor 60ft of 2.28, couldnt better that due to grip in 1st.
removed charcoal canister
these bad boys came from Nathan Frekes old drag car and are going on my spare stock rear wheels to help with traction!!!
few more bits a bobs
new center panel, debadged, tinted reverse lights.
Renewed Phoenix power oil cooler brackets, cleaned and painted, much improved
the drag radials arrived!
Also sorted out a piston engine lever, finally!!! Cleaned a painted! along with a cleaned and painted TOMS strut (this has been 5 years in the making, lol!)
(old panel poorly debadged)
new one on!
CURRENT BAY!!!
got the car features in 2 magazines recently, mr2only and the brand new toyota performance mag
click on 720 HD in the options and open full screen, cool!
short but sweet.

august update
AEM UEGO wideband installed
new AIT sensor, much quicker than stock at reacting to temps
thanks to mr2turbotom for helping me fit these uprated CV joints by CRW!
HT DRs on the stock 15s!
howeve rrun into a little clearance issue with the droplinks!
recently swapped in a Apexi GT exhaust in mint condition!
vids

unfortunatly, this has happened!!! to my lovely exhaust manifold!
so off its coming again for some work
i noticed losing a bit of spool recently, and having to adjust my ebc to get back to my 1.4bar boost level, looking closely at the mani and found this
also removed my aircon idle up valve piping and taken off my dump valve for now.
i need to clean up the random small red pipe coming off the ic pipe tho, make this look a little better.
also removed the started to turn around my gear linkage block, i here this can wear and cause dodgy shifting. however mine appeared pretty new, but rotated it 90degrees anyhow.
managed to get a close up of my gearlinkage bearings to, not sure what make they are tho??????
wear block sits
and random pic i liked

Re: JDM 1998 Revision 5 GT turbo!! 403hp,360lb
september update
i got the manifold off, and unfortunatly quite a crack....
its currently back at the welders, for some love, and to help support the wastegate collector, hes welding in a gusset
all free of charge , going by his word of the 2 year warrenty he mentioned before i got the mani made....
this does unfortunatly mean its unlikely ill make JAE unless it turns up soon and i get it back together on the weekend, AND i find some spare JAE tickets, lol
also, to further support things, ive gone with an anti torque traction bar, this one made by Ja99a, replicates the VMAX torque bar but has added features, thicker and more solid gearbox bracket, safety cables and a full 4 bolt and more secure engine mount plate.
im also going to be making up a custom plate to give extra support on top of all of this on the block.
this bar basically fits behind the front engine mount and attachs to the gearbox.
its basically a bar to stop ANY front to rear engine movement.
this will not only help my manifold, but also any wheel hop and should seriously improve my shifting....
torque bar traits;
Consistent and accurate shifts (your basically not pulling and pushing on the linkage cables)
More predictable traction threshold
Reduces wear and tear on motor mounts (much less movement, so a given really)
Puts an end to intercooler pipes popping off due to engine rotation.
A reduction in wheel hop
Less axle articulation resulting is less broken axles
Less back and forth motion that results to cracking SS manifolds
hopefully a good buy!!!!
ive also gone back to a stock shifter mechanism (a rev2+ tubby one), been hearing good things over the pond about folks going back to oem shifters and getting much more consistant and in turn quicker shifting (though the throw is slightly longer)!! ive still got my lowering palte in there to drop the height a little.
so hopefully this change, on top of the torque bar should greatly improve my shifting!!!
all to do now is get some 5mm spacers for the drag wheels, bend the droplink bracket slightly, and i should be good to go for some drag action!!!!!
oh i also noticed my downpipe had got a tiny crack, so thats being sorted to! along with a Wideband bung, as my Apexi GT exhuast didnt have a bung for a wideband like my PP PRO exhaust did....
a similar torque bar installed

Excellent as always Jim.
Notice any differences in going from twin to single exit?

ait sensor i got from ebay dude
seems theres good feedback on the rx7 clubs.
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Toyota-MR2-Turbo- ... 3a5e2e0f84
J -1
noticed a deeper sound, alot more scooby/evo like, if you know what i mean.
and the pops and bangs on the overrun are much louder!
sounds sweet. i like it.
havent had a chance to do much testing, mani slowly got worse, so hard to judge. but performance, i can only imagine good things.
saved a bunch of weight tho compared to PP PRO, and removed aircon compressor today to, more weight gone
will do the aircon rad and pipes at a later date.
much easier to remove with no downpipe and manifold in the way!

got to be one of the best all round turbos around now with the demise of a few of the long timers, certainly one of my personal favourites
looking good jim

Re: JDM 1998 Revision 5 GT turbo!! 403hp,360lb
cheers folks
yeh this car wont be going anywhere for a while, buying a house soon, so my dream of getting a noble is now limited! lol
so should keep me busy for some time to come.
unfortunatly ive had to wait quite a while to get back my parts, which is frustrating! but hopefully all back together next weekend.
been having a word with ryan at 2bar, and i may take the plunge and crank up the boost even further....
not sure how the sidemount will take more boost, but be good to see none the less.

So you are the one who bought that torque bar from Ja99a...
But, on the ARB, why did you mount 1 droplink on the outer hole, and the other side in the middle hole ?

Re: JDM 1998 Revision 5 GT turbo!! 403hp,360lb
I believe those are the best settings
Fronts on middle setting
Rears on hardest setting
Just went with what everyone else rates with these arbs.
Those pics are front AND back arbs.

yeh probably best way, im going for some 5mm spacers, ill see how close that is, if to close, ill take a hammer to the bracket.
cheers
Re: JDM 1998 Revision 5 GT turbo!! 403hp,360lb
am a happy man!!
last weekend got it all back together along with my new torque bar....
have to say, very impressed with quick shifting, certainly sets the engine up for zero movement making fast shifts seem insanly fast!
normal semi quick shifting, its not much different than you poly mount upgrade, its only on extreme drag style shifting you notice the full benifit....
i havent tried any burnouts to test if my wheel hopping has gone, but on gunning it in 1st i did notice some wheel spin and no cabin virations and wheel hop.....so perhaps it has indeed helped here also
i also made a custom bracket to hold onto the block as well as the gearbox, well i think its the block anyway....
pics
new downpipe bung and fixed cracks
new manifold gussets to help the wastegate and fixed crack
new torque bar install
custom bracket
had to chop 10mm off the end of my screamer to fit
position of wideband
all back together!! woohoo!!!!

Re: JDM 1998 Revision 5 GT turbo!! 403hp,360lb
Do you find significant differences with the anti-torque bar Jim? Any negative aspects? I have quite a bit of front to rear slack when changing gear at higher boosts which I assume is engine rotation...
Re: JDM 1998 Revision 5 GT turbo!! 403hp,360lb
i do feel it improves things....this is on top of running poly mounts also..
engine just feels like its not going anywhere, so any quick/hard changes, it remains solid....
its got to the point now where im on boost into 2nd and wheel spinning up to 60, but in a nice straight line (due to the bar keeping axles straight and true)...
i am finding it easy to light up in 2nd gear on quick changes, but any spin is easy to control...
before, any spin in 2nd would send the car left oo right so need to be quick to react....
overall am happy with it for sure.
