MR2 parts prices from toyota dealers

Post by Si_Crewe »

Just wondering what people think...

In the process of repairing my mangled dipstick I've ended up needing a bunch of bits for my MR2, mostly bits like gaskets, stud-bolts, nuts etc.

I priced em up on websites but, tbh, it turned out that they were only a couple of quid dearer at my local Toyota dealer.

Just seems like the Toyota dealers aren't really that extortianate after all.

Obviously, it'd still cost you a fortune to buy summat like a new cylinder head from them, rather than a reconditioned one from a specialist but they don't seem to be too bad for all the odds and sods.

I've only used them for the water bypass pipes aka "hose from hell" &"hell on earth"

One was a fiver, fair enough. The other was pretty much the same but bent, 12 quid !

I think for certain things they arent too bad

...well I saved over 35% on dealer prices on my GT4 by buy buying genuine parts through a mail order company down south.
For me it's not the dealership prices, it's actually getting them to order something for me. My local dealership isn't interested in selling parts.

What? Mine were £60 each brand new from Toyota. Front wing £75 brand new in box. Last set of pads I bought were from Toyota, they were about £20.

I buy nearly all my parts from Toyota, I've negociated a trade discount and that pretty much makes them the same price as other suppliers.

I'm really not sure where the assumption that Toyota will be expensive for everything really comes from. I mean yeah, for some thing that you'd NEVER try and buy new (ST205 core, MK1 supercharger unit, etc) they are very expensive but most things aren't that bad.

Toyota are expensive, but not so much so that I don't use them.

Mitsubishi parts however...£23 for a radiator cap, £120 for a single wheel arch liner, £120 for a piece of interior plastic etc etc
