ST185 calipers

Morning,

For Xmas my wife has bought me some ST185 twin pot calipers

Only problem is I'm not sure what other parts I'll need for the conversion.

Discs? Carriers? brake lines?

I understand it's a simple swap but would like to be sure before I jump in lol

Help and part numbers welcome

You don't need anything else, they will just bolt up to the Mk1 hub and fit the Mk1b disc.

That is presuming you have the 256mm versions, they also did a 277mm version, so you would need a 277mm disc for those.I would also check exactly what you do have because to the best of my knowledge only the st165 had twin pots.... i think the 185's were all singles, but it gets complicated on the 277mm versions, they might have done a twinpot for those.

Basically if they came from a 256mm disc'd car you are good to go

The calipers are deffo twin pots, fitting to a mk1b (D reg).

Is there a part number on them I could look for to make sure?

Early import ST185 came with twin-pots. I think they're slightly different to 165's but still bolt up to your exisiting disk. However I don't think these are a big upgrade so I would flog them on and look for a set of the ST185/UK ST182 single pots. Nice thought from the missus tho

On the contrary jon, the twin pots are a great upgrade, that's why the heavier mk2 mr2 and celicas have them

Hmm, I guess, still a tiny disk would be my concern. They are very ill thought of on the ST165/ST185 though, yes, I will grant that they have an extra 300kg's to stop.

My advice would be a test fit, remove one wheel and caliper (keep it connected to the brake pipe, just zip tie it out of the way making sure that the brake pipe isn't stressed) and just try the combinations of caliper and carriers.

When you have a fit you are confident with, then do the real fit.

You will need some new brake fluid if all goes well

Think I'll be trying that this weekend. My concern looking at them is that 1 of the carrier bolts look different.

I thought both top and bottom bolts on my existing Calipers had the same sort of hole but on these it seem different on the 2 bolt holes.... maybe I'll take a pic later and post it.

You do have the celica carrier brackets as well don't you?

If not they aren't going to fit i'm afraid.

Guess the first thing im gonna need to do is get the carriers then lol
