sounds like the big end bearings have had it to me

Sounds as though it could be exhaust related. I suspect it is the 'pin' which holds the front pipe at the rear subframe:

I think it has sheared off but the rubber mount is holding it against the exhaust giving the rattle.


You can see this from above - rear bulkhead - offside

hahah oh god do i wish your right but it sounds like its coming fromt he top of the engine


BUT ive just rememberd the exhaust is blowing and i dont no why yet

iv refitted charcoal canister vavle back on my 2 and what a noise , touch the throttle and it stops but not for long

Doesn't sound like big ends to me. When they go they tend to go with the the RPM's. I.E. faster the RPM's, faster the knocking.

I agree, could be a camshaft/shim problem :-k

i just changed the oil as i was going to do it anyway the oil i got out was very very metalic so im sure somethings not right. and the noise seems to be coming from the top of the engine

Quick check for big ends, put car in first, without using any throttle, let engine idle, with hand brake on, and lift clutch up slowly so engine is nearly stalling. If big ends are gone/going it should so up with that nasty death rattle noise that sounds like the video.

can thay just be changed or will this have caused damage to the engine? and how big a job is it to change them?
