hold on guys, why are we all saying the guy should be happy with the results?

what we know is that the car is running significantly less power than it should and it also has a fault, i'd be getting the car booked in with a specilist for a diagnostic session and proper set up.

cars dont lose power with age unless theyre broken!

get the car fixed and THEN you'll be happy with the results mate, if you get the car fixed and sensibly modded with a boost increase (commonly refered to "stage1 tuning" you should see an almost 40% improvement in power! that's significant!

The cause of the low power on the rollers was believed to be down to the lack of boost .5 bar.
Surrey Rolling road put this down to a weak actuator, which on a 16 year old car is not unheard of.

By fitting the mbc I have bypassed the actuator and in doing so have been able to up the boost a little to .85 which was the figure I wanted so the car remains 98% reliable.

The car has more pull and that was 2 up so I shall go for a bimble before I start work to see what it feels like with just me.
When I've fitted an exhaust and maybe a decat I will get it up to surrey again and see what its up too,I'd be happy with 240 as I use it everyday....unless I walk to work and save £50 on fillups

Just tried the car one up.......... er yup its quicker.

1st gear launches could need practice as on pull away it bogs a bit....then spools up......then I need to shift up as its getting near the red,not that I drive that way very often, just wanted to see what it could do.

225/45-16's do grip well.

All good fun though

Meh I wished there's a place like that near where I live. It's near impossible to tune your car over here lol, unless you want to travel 100+miles. :(

By the way, according to wikipedia and JDM 3S-GTE should have around 260bhp? I presume thats at the flywheel then?

an MBC does not bypass the actuator, the actuator is the mechanical device bolted onto the side of the turbo that moves the wastegate arm.

what you have done is bypass the standard boost control. which has also proven that the actuator is probably working ok

IF the problem was caused only by the standard boost control valve being faulty then yes you have FIXED the problem.

if the cause was ANYTHING else, you have not, you have just bypassed a safety feature!!!!!

again i would consider having the car set up and checked over to identify what the issue is

Interesting, not heard it put like that before.
So what is the standard boost control.

I see you guys have talked a lot about stock boost pressures e.t.c I was just wondering, ive recently fitted a decat and mongoose zorst and i have no intention of "uping" the boost. What kinda pressure increase am i looking at with just the decat and zorst?

Is that the one that goes to the tvsv,if so its been disconnected and blocked so I can get the higher boost in the lower gears.
I am aware that this is also central to certain safeguards built into the Toyota design whereby only alloweing higher boost when conditions are correct,ie temp etc.
And on disconnecting this I do run certain risks.

I have read on here somewhere that you may get a mild increase with those mods, don't know if its correct though.

I never understand when people say this.

Old engines that are broken in normally make a tad more power than fresh new engines.

If ignition components, EFI and your compression of the cylinders and the timing is all ok and all sensors are working, there is no reason why the car wont put out stock power or more!

no boost increase - but you will have torque and power increase from getting rid of the stock cat and exhaust.

Just had 2nd dyno run :D

Has now got Apexi airfilter
Japspeed exhaust and an mbc plus boost gauge, had set the boost to .9 bar.

Max power has gone from 205.7 in standard form with .5 bar boost up to 242.6,an increase of 36.9,however boost was set to .9 bar on the R spec boost gauge but it peaked at .8 at 3000 revs according to the printout and is dropping from there on until 5250 (peak power by the looks of it) to .7 bar.

If my calcs are correct (I doubt it) then .9 may get it to 254.9(I'd be very happy with a round 250  .

Hopfully a gizzmo ibc can hold .9 nice and steady, may decat and intercooler too,and that should be fun.

All this adds up to 204.1 at the wheels.

Gizzmo IBC fitted today, although not yet set up.

May be off road for a month or so due to selling wheels to fund some new Rota D1's in gold :-P

Gizzmo fitted, just having to stop the spikes now, also have fitted my new wheels 17x8 35et front with 215/40-17 Goodyears and 17x9 35et rears with 235/40-17's.

Was expecting a poor ride compared to the 16's,but to be fair they ride really well and are stable up to highish speeds.

Look the dogs too,Also joined the church.
Hoping to fit lower springs, looking like Apex -30mm,although G max 30-40mm are fitted  ,they be poo, although the rides good.

haveing read this from a link of another post.

i am to having massive boost issues.

i can only get .3 bar

ive changed my knock sensor twice just incase the first one was faulty but to no avail.

my mods consit of mbc that was set to 1 bar (worked fine when i had it located in the cabin) decat, free flowing exhaust and hks induction.

ive checked the timing and its correct, spools up to .3 bar perfect and stays there stable indicating no boost leaks.

am at my wits end with it tbh :(

dodgy actuator maybe??? If the actuator is weak then it will be opening up early not allowing you too boost high
