Project V6 Black Knight

Post by Shadeh »

Hi guys,

After having a turbo engine for my n/a I decided the car is best as a cruising car so went the V6 route. Spent a few days looking around and this little jem turned up. The guy wanted 625 for it but I left it hanging for a week and we came to a deal at 550 and this car is worth every penny. On the drive home from Manchester it was nothing but a luxury, set the cruise control to 75, sat back in the comfy leather seat and made my way home, it was 1am in the morning and had I not had to steer I would have been fast asleep! This car sounds amazing especially with the powerflow exhaust at the back of it.. those torques are lovely.

Anyway more about the car it is going into. Most of you have seen this car around and it is a good one. Passed mot start of the month with no advisories I thought I best get it out the way ready for engine swapping goodness. Nearly everything is modified on this, a border front, toms skirts, tubby lid, border back?, 10th anniversary plates, neons!, rev 5 spoiler and japspeed. Inside is much the same with lovely leather seats and door cards, a momo millenium evo wheel and gearstick along with a pioneer double din, which has a 6 cd changer playing cd/mp3/divx/dvd and tied in with a pioneer sat nav system too. Behind the passenger seat is a sub and there are 2 amps in the frunk. The alarm is fancy too, with remote start, pop your headlights up and do everything jobby. This car is a tribute to the original modifier and this is how it started in life:

So it all begins today I will start taking the n/a engine out and the fun will begin, thanks for looking.

Hey guys, been a bit lazy lately and with the rain, didn't do much to the camry, but today it was on! Had a hard time last few days with the drive shafts and considered grinding them off but I managed to start loosening the bolts off and kept the wheel still by putting a brick under it. After that it was the engine mounts near the exhaust on right hand side, came off easy but after this it was the exhaust from the back manifold.. man was that a mofo! One bolt came off nice n sound and the last bolt stopping us from lifting the engine out started to round off! After trying for a bit nothing was left to do except grind the flexi off which we managed to do pretty good, but still the exhaust was hanging on the other brackets so took the middle and the end one off pretty easy but the last bracket near the back of the car was also a right mofo, so I ground the rubber off a bit and it snapped off. Then it was all good lifting the engine out and the day was good again :D

Ahh nice new head gasket set mmm

This is how my mate grinded the flexi off.. car nice and high.. held by the camry seat belt!

Almost ready to pop out

I am now presented with what looks like the mammoth task of taking the auto gearbox off, I can see red paste all around it and smacking it with the rubber mallet has done nothing, any ideas guys?

Hi guys been a while. I have been a right lazy mofo on this, had no luck getting the auto box off the v6 yet, I think the 1.5 sidetracked me quite a lot

Well today finally saw the 3sge coming out! I couldn't get the driveshafts out so I decided to take the whole rear clip out as you will see in the pics. The wiring loom was a right ar$e mainly cause this car has so much more extra wiring due to the cd changer in boot plus the neon lights and tv tuner and sat nav etc etc. Also right at the last minute I remembered I didnt disconnect the the fuel rail.. doh! Anyway here is some pics..

Oh yeah I forgot to mention the best part! I dragged the engine out from under the mk2 by attaching it to the tow hook to my mk1 :D lol

Well the next task is to rebuild my v6 engine. As I have not got the gearbox off yet it may take a while but I have some days off this week so I will try get it done. I have got a new water, headgasket set and cambelt + tensioners for it :D Hopefully it will be done by end of this year? Who knows :p

And here is the engine wrapped up ready to go to it's new home in Glasgow. It was a right pain to get the flywheel off and then take it back to the front driveway, but it's all good :D

Notice the big oil spill..
