The thing that gets me is that most of the bigger holes had been bodged by someone - which means, somewhere down the line, somebody knowingly sold it like this

Makes the old trick of running a magnet over the bodywork seem a good peice of advice when buying a MK1 in future!

Easily defeated through a mix of metal filings in with the filler.

/Makes mental note never to buy a car off Malc.

 That's really bad Pete... :(
Really sorry to read all of this. I'm amazed that - as someone has said - someone in the past knowingly sold this car on in this state. That's some appalling bodging...

Yup. Even the Silver POR-15 has metal flakes in it. It's designed to fill shallow holes and still "retain some of the original strength due to the presence of metal" ( ) but if someone wanted to, they could easily use it to fill a deep hole/rusted area that's almost rusted through and you'd never really know that it'd been bodged as the magnet would still hold...

I have just read the thread you had running on mr2mk1 forum....

Feel gutted for you - hope you didnt get too ripped off for the car now you now the state it was really in - do you know the person you bought it off?

As per the previous post they might really know the history and certainly who last MOT'd it.....

Best wishes and good luck - hope you find a better one!
