All inputs good input :)

I did grease them when putting them in, But even so im not sure what you mean by rotating?

I cant see how the bush will rotate?

Cheers Michael.

Nath what torque bar are you using?

I may be talking out of bottom, but I thought you greased the surface of the bush so that the mount on the engine side can rotate against the bush. With the stock one from memory it had a metal sleeve inside so that things can rotate.

If your bush was dry :-# on the surfaces which touch the metal it could have being trying to rotate it inside the body and tore it. Normally it would just wobbly about, but launching and hard acceleration the engine would rock and pull on it in a rotational direction?

I'm not explaining it very well, but I know what I mean.

The powerflex are more difficult to fit than other uprated mount bushes??
Or just generally annoying task with any mount?

Only £40 so hopefully not the end of the world if i dont like them. The car is mental at idle anyway. Can't be much worse, LOL.

Budget a full day with this one !! Put it this way, i could probably have the engine on the floor quicker.. and I'm not shabby with me mitts !

I actually kept my polys shelved till I got annoyed with the clutch slipping, dropped the whole lot on the floor ( fitting a twin plate is a nightmare in situ ) and fitted the polys at the same time...

If you can source some engine mounts for practically nothing ( front and rear ) do it.. and it'll save you down time. If you're not bothered.. then pull yours and modify them ! :thumleft:

Jim there are holes in the front powerflex mount the pic in the ebay ad is an example pic as they are yellow, also when powerflex started making them they got a turbo in to make them from not realising there was different sizes so the ebay advert started with 79mm as it was the only one originally and the other sizes came later I have the 83mm on the car and a new set with the 73mm front in the garage. They arent hard to fit I hacked most of the original rubber out with a jigsaw (if its a 73mm front it will fall out anyway) then burnt the rest out, then painted them and pushed the inserts in, they do have metal sleeves in them as well.
I only put the ebay ad up as its the cheapest way of buying them. They do put a bit more vibration into the car but I dont find it too be bad but then I do live with a multiplate clutch .

This is not a 20min going by the ad then.

Just a case of removing the whole mount (do I have to support or lift the engine in any way????)

Bash or burn out the old mount?? I heard oem mounts have a metal sleave on the outside of the oem bush (inside the mount)? Correct? This need to be removed to? Or will work with the poly bush?

Thanks. Weekend mod for me maybe if I got time.

ok just received them, very quick delivery!!!

anyway, are they both ment to be exactly the same size front and rear on the tubby???

the code on the boxes for the front was pfr76-308 and rear was pfr76-309.

but the codes on the mounts themselfs all say pfr76- 308-9

tho the 4 parts have been stacked differently, they are all the same size.

this correct mad1???? i requested the 79mm ones.

out rim is like 79mm, and the inner rim is around 76mm.

Whoops 3 holes not 4 doh !
If I remember correctly the turbo ones are the same size, yes they are as I used both of them as rears as originally I received pfr76-308 and pfr76-309.
"Just a case of removing the whole mount (do I have to support or lift the engine in any way????)"
Just unbolt the mounts and remove them the engine wont move (I have replaced both mounts in under 15 minutes using just a trolley jack) you need a u shaped spanner.
"Bash or burn out the old mount?? I heard oem mounts have a metal sleave on the outside of the oem bush (inside the mount)? Correct? This need to be removed to? Or will work with the poly bush?"
I cut most of it out then tipped white spirit (all I had to hand) and burned the rest out I left the metal ring in (other people say to remove it powerflex said either or as I had made it up with it in and wasnt sure if I should take it apart and remove the ring or not so its still in there) it was hard work to get the inserts in, but I managed it, then put the sleeve in I took a bit longer as I painted the mounts before fitting the inserts.
"This is not a 20min going by the ad then"
No I would allow 2 hours or a bit longer if you intend to paint the mounts it would be quicker on the na mounts as the rubber always falls out on the 73mm front in my experience.
Good luck with it.

So do i insert them like in the left hand bush, or right hand bush in my pic? Just confused why they were supplied different way round to each other??

Or do they fit as the pic suggests? Left one goes to rear, right one to the front, as that's the 79mm the wider part of the bush.

Thanks for info.

They both go in like the one on the left just pull them apart take the metal sleeve out and push the smaller side into the mount on one side then do the same on the other side then push the sleeve in, obviously some one has just thrown the one on the right together the other way but it was only to get it in the pack to send it out.

Pete Its only the front mounts that differ 73mm - n/a, 79mm - turbo, 83.5mm - TRD the rear mounts are all 79mm like the turbo front mounts as when powerflex started making them they didnt realise there was 3 different sizes as they used a turbo to work from and the early kits comprised of 2 79mm inserts.

Silly question I know, but thanks for confirming. Just wernt sure whether they were put together differently for a reason.

The lube, just on the outer rim of the bush, so to speak, pmsl. Or does the sleave need some as well in the center? I guess to maybe help it slip in as well.

The front Turbo mount is 83.5 mm Powerflex part No. PFR76-312, I expect you can fit the smaller ones by leaving the old mount ring in place but using the correct size makes life much easier.

No I am afraid the turbo mounts are 79mm the 83.5mm is the TRD mounts as I found out,( 73mm - n/a, 79mm - turbo, 83.5mm - TRD) but I would advise anyone who is going to buy a set to crawl under the car and run a ruler across the front mount to make sure they order the right one as I have fitted trd mounts to a couple of na's and some people will have fitted na mounts to a tubby as they all fit and I have even heard so called toyota specialists say that the na mount is meant to be in 2 parts and refit a broken mount !

Well that's strange :-k I am not saying you are not correct mad1 but I have now fitted 4 sets of powerflex mounts to different Turbo Rev3+ cars and they all had the 83.5 front mount, these cars were imported direct from Japan so perhaps they had all been fitted with TRD mounts in Japan? But like you say its not hard to check before ordering.

tarmac terrorist wrote:solid mounting can crack the body the best thing ive found was on mine i used standard toyota mounts then pumped them with sikaflex very tough but not completly solid so no damage to the body

+1 on this idea from nick. Im using TRD mounts filled up with sikaflex. Just fill the rubber cavities and let it set for a couple of days. Also where its still 'rubber' it continues to soak up the vibrations unlike polyurethane.
