Now, I know I am biased

I prefer the cloth to leather

- it ages better, is more comfortable in hot weather

(and, err, cold weather too).

It is pretty tough to say what the market for exceptional Mk1s is like at any time.

As ever, it's a case of a seller finding a buyer

If there were 32,000 Mk1s sold in the UK, my guess is that 3,000 might be left on the roads

(I just made a Freedom of Information Act request to the DVLA to find out!) and that does not make them rare by any stretch.

If I guessed at 300 pampered and 2,700 in slow decline

(?) even in 10 years time there will still be plenty around to keep enthusiasts happy.

A turn in the direction of the economy might result in more folks with enough cash to spend on a toy in the garage, but there has to be a ceiling for what was a mass-market, Corrola-based, rust-prone, 4AGE-engined 2 seater.
