I had a Cusco front brace likes yours. Turns out it's just an ebay spesh with a Cusco sticker.

Re: 16" tyre choice

I think you just have to use common sense. As marf says, 10 year old Nankings on the rear and new AD08s on the front, you're gonna have a bad time. people change from 195 to 205 all the time. this should give far more of an impact than having similar spec'd tyres front and rear. Alloys size also pro...

Double check the hoses. From the turbo to intercooler and intercooler to throttle body. Take them off clean them up and refit.

You don't mention if you have kids to support?? House to pay for?? Current age?? If its literally a case of you spend 80k and get your commercial ticket, I'd do it. The shell of the car isn't worth much. Sell all the expensive bits, keep the car, get pilots license, concentrate on being a pilot, com...

Maybe...

Rather than thinking about the air temps rising then being cooled by the water, what if because you are injecting water pre turbo the water is being put under pressure at the same time as the air so to speak. Maybe this would stop the temps rising so high in the first place

Re: Water/meth injection: a theoretical and practical discussion

I would assume so, all I know is that there seems to be many papers that document the cooling effect, even wiki (which is not peer reviewed) documents it. I cant find any tests to support otherwise though, can anyone else? Water injection worked by reducing cylinder inlet temperature, thereby delay...

Re: Water/meth injection: a theoretical and practical discussion

I believe this is why you're getting the performance you are. I'm guessing the methanol is also making a massive difference.

With your car, what would happen if you were to also add in a usual smic? Surely you'd get better results, you'd have more chance of cooling the charged air before ignition?

I've had a quick browse through the topic you posted. Thing for me is a lot of your data is based on temp readings which I don't know are accurate or not. But then you write this Just adding this graph that a lot of you might find interesting. Image Replaced With URL For Quote http://www.pballandmor...

Re: Water/meth injection: a theoretical and practical discussion

What would you do if you needed to take the car on a long journey. Say to nurburgring. I wasn't propulsion in the raf, as I say I'm not really to clued up on the ins and outs. I started as avionics then went for commission. I can tell you anything you need to know about administering alcohol to the ...

Re: Water/meth injection: a theoretical and practical discussion

I am ex RAF. I do know a little more than I'm letting on. I understand what you saying. Let's say you have a long pipe coming off your turbo, goes all around the engine bay and boot then into the throttle. The amount of time the air has to be cooled is quite a bit. If you've got a pipe coming off th...

Re: Water/meth injection: a theoretical and practical discussion

Turbos sometimes get a little bit hot, they also pull quite a vacuum which allows the water to boil at a much lower temperature and then we have explosive evaporation at the tips of the blades.. The simple evidence for this is that pre compressor water injection has proved many times to result in m...

Re: Water/meth injection: a theoretical and practical discussion

Just chiming in.. no water does not need to boil to evaporate. It is evaporating all the time just at room temperature. Just not at a noticable rate. Water has 3 states, ice, water and steam. So if it has not boiled it is still water Water is constantly evaporating and condensating at the same time...

Not took it off yet.

I'll take it off over the weekend and have a look. I'm pretty sure it's the motor. It may be able to be salvaged.

Re: Water/meth injection: a theoretical and practical discussion

So "inlet air" is natural gas? No Natural gas is 95 per cent Methane (CH4) Plus four other hydrocarbons: Ethane (C2H6) - 2.5%, Propane (C3H8) - 0.2%, Butane (C4H10) - 0.06%, Pentanes Plus (C5H12 + C10H22) - 0.02% It also contains small amounts of: Nitrogen (N2) - 1.6%, Carbon Dioxide (CO2...

Re: Water/meth injection: a theoretical and practical discussion

I've read the document. It relates to land based gas turbines where the hot gases, usually natural gas, are saturated to 100%. This then only still reducing the temp from dry to wet values. Doesn't really apply to car turbo chargers IMO. They are talking about creating a stable efficient compressor ...

Leak from near dizzy cap

I changed the cam cover gasket yesterday, applied the sealant as per the directions. Now I've run the car up to temp I can see a small leak of oil. It doesn't seem to be coming from the cam cover gasket itself or from around the sealant which has spread. I've drawn a crude diagram below to show wher...
