Leak from near dizzy cap

Post by dazzz »

I changed the cam cover gasket yesterday, applied the sealant as per the directions.

Now I've run the car up to temp I can see a small leak of oil. It doesn't seem to be coming from the cam cover gasket itself or from around the sealant which has spread.

I've drawn a crude diagram below to show where the leak is coming from. Whilst the engine is running I can actually see tiny bubbles of oil coming up from between the block and what looks like a bracket.

Before I go taking things of the car I'd like to try and figure out what the causes could be. I've never removed the dizzy cap and don't know what seals are inside or how far they go back. Are there any oil seals which sit approximately after the bearing cap but before the distributor?

Please take a look at the diagram and let me know your ideas of what to check.

There is an o ring seal on the distributor shaft, could be that.

I just got the o ring. £4 plus vat from mr T

I'm hoping it's not coming from under the bearing cap :thumleft:

it seems quite common for it to ooze a bit round the dizzy o-ring so just replacing that should sort it :thumleft:
