Re: HID legality - VOSA not expecting self-levelling & spray?
HID bulbs were designed to work in projector housings in order to focus the intense light properly and safely. End of. Incorrect. There are two groups of HID bulbs for OEM use. 'S' prefix are for projector type housings, but there are also 'R' types for reflectors. For example, my Audi fitted with ...

It's useful on a t-bar if you're parking it with the roof off!

Not sure on legality, but I can tell you that my MR2 has passed MOT three years running with aftermarket 'H4' HID's fitted to Raybrig lenses.

Re: Do I have a bracket missing?
I thought so! I've got the caps, and the screws that the caps fit on. I think they have a washer on them too but I'd have to go and look to be sure.

Do I have a bracket missing?
Here's some pics of the underside of my center console. It's been retrimmed, but it was so long ago that I took it out I can't remember if there are some brackets missing. http://chrisw.net/stuff/IMG_1241.jpg http://chrisw.net/stuff/IMG_1242.jpg On the car I have little screw tabs like this: http://...

I've got one of the Stoney Racing ones, complete with their twin fan kit. Can't recommend it (or the company for that matter) any higher. It's spot on.

Re: IMOC trip to The Le Mans 24hr 2012
Just to say what an excellent weekend away Le Mans is. You can't truely call yourself a petrolhead unless you've been at least once!
Although I've got my own crew that I go with every year I'm sure the IMOC trip is just as much fun!

Re: [Mk2] [NA] N00B questions!
The NA gearbox will work fine with the V6. I ran mine around for about 2 years like that with no problems. The only advantage with the turbo box is the LSD, plus different ratios which can be considered either an advantage or disadvantage depending on your viewpoint. Retrofitting air con would be a ...

Re: Legislation for MOT with HID lights
The other idea I was thinking of was packing them with LEDs. You can buy 1W units in an 8mm 'straw hat' package. Make up your own plastic inner lens, drill 8mm holes in it, glue LEDs in. Eg: 5p 1W 8mm Straw Hat White LED Light StrawHat 240,000mcd Keep in mind LEDs are between 5-8x brighter for equiv...

Re: Legislation for MOT with HID lights
I thought about doing something similar, using a pair of kit car (or bike) projector units, one each for main and dip, mounted under the stock popup housing. I'd then modify the lift cam to decrease the height. Would give the 'sleepy eye' look but still with perfectly working headlights.

Re: Legislation for MOT with HID lights
I've not driven a car with xenons or hids, but I don't see much wrong with the standard lights. Brighter bulbs make a world of difference: agreed, although the bulbs ive just put in mine are from ebay and theyre a bit boy racer ish, far too blue and it has lessened the brighteness somewhat, both my...

Re: Legislation for MOT with HID lights
I also heard something about that Chris, however just to confuse things further, mine failed the MOT last month on a handbrake cable and BLUE sidelights. #-o which were actually blue white LEDs. Apparently, recent MOT legislation states they must be white. So they changed them for the original ones...

Re: Legislation for MOT with HID lights
I think the statement linked above falls down on one part: If one places a HID "burner" (bulb) in the headlamp, the beam pattern will not be correct, there will be glare in some places and not enough light in other places within the beam pattern. So, if an HID converted headlight passes th...

Some video clips of the car on Power Engineering's dyno: http://video.chrisw.net/d45JfG9Uh4 http://video.chrisw.net/p34hHd3Efr Keep in mind they were taken with my phone so sound quality isn't great. I've never had an MOT problem with not having one, and the car is a weekend toy so rarely gets used in the dark anyway.
