Re: Radweld

No it won't, you can risk damaging the car early. Go on ebay or something and buy a 2nd hand rad, always better. If you get a new rad, you will up the re-sale value as you can assure one less thing that will need replacing/fixing for a while to the new owner. Fair enough guys. Rest assured that bas...

Re: Radweld

So instead bodge it up and screw it for the next person :thumleft: £100. Rad replaced. Job done. Thanks guys but £100 is out of the question as that's a lot of money to me so I do NOT want to fix the car properly and instead want to just get it to be usable for the next couple of months and then I'...

Radweld

Hi, I just wanted a concensus of opinion on Radweld as I know some people have said it's more trouble than it's worth, but my car has recently sprung a couple of small but high-pressure leaks in the radiator and I have no intention of keeping the car for more than another 3 months (ish), so was wond...

Toyota Coolant

Evening, Just a quick message as I've been out today and bought a 1 litre bottle of Red coolant from the Toyota dealer to keep on standby in case my car needs stopping up. My question is how the f**k do you open it? I've tried pushing down the red outer ring on the lid and the thing just clicks but ...

Re: Metal Cap in Engine Bay

Putting rad weld in will cause no end of grief. Just get the rad changed. I have a turbo rad, think they are the same, pm me if you need it. :thumleft: Righto, I'll bear that in mind. Thanks mate. I've never used Radweld but just wondered if it would work because occasionally I get a tiny bit of st...

Re: Metal Cap in Engine Bay

This one? http://www.absoluteradiator.com/images/NR-Cap.jpg That is the coolant. You shouldn't put just water in there. It should be a mix of coolant (anti-freeze) and water. Fill it to the top of the pipe is normal. You'll also have the expansion tank close to it. The plastic bottle. This should b...

Metal Cap in Engine Bay

Hi People, Firstly I'd like to apologise as although I'm quite mechanically minded and can understand the workings of most things, I get very confused by all the different fluids that go into a car and where they all go (except things like screen wash obviously). Basically I've just been looking in ...

Re: Wiper Squeal

Hi Chaps, Just to update you on the dreaded squeal. I've replaced the wiper linkages and the noise has gone completely. I got a mechanic friend of mine to look at it beforehand and he was almost certain that the joints on the linkages were wearing out and rubbing against each other, which was causin...

Wiper Squeal

Hi All, My car started making a really irritating squealing noise when the wipers are turned on the other day. I have done the obvious and lubricated the blades but strangely this isn't anything to do with it as the noise persists even when the wipers are detached from the car completely. The local ...

Re: Whining Noise

That's fair enough. I think yours sounds like it's at the stage mine was before I left it for a fortnight, but I would be very careful if I were you as mine was pouring smoke the first time I tried to start it up when I got back and I reckon I was fairly close to having a fire if I hadn't turned it ...

Re: Whining Noise

I'm sure it's the alternator as I turned it a lilttle on the starter yesterday and could see the belt going round the alternator yet the pulley stayed still. It's obviously seized while I've been on holiday as it was making the occasional noise before I went but now I think it's finally gone. The ba...

Re: Whining Noise

it's on start up for about 10-15 seconds, and the stops? it might be worth ruling out the electric power steering pump, in the front trunk. this is definately audiable in the cabin, and always kicks in when the igition goes on Ian No, it's definitely something in the engine bay and I suspect it's t...

Re: Whining Noise

Hi guys,

On this matter do any of you have a diagram (or photos) of exactly where the alternator is in the engine bay as I've had a look but it's so cramped in there that it's difficult to see (plus the manual is as much use as a chocolate fireguard).

Thanks in advance.

No, I wash the car with the headlights raised so as to clean the road grime from them.

[Mk2] [NA] Lack of Light

Hi guys, I haven't been driving my car in the dark much until recently, so I've only just noticed how pathetic my cars standard headlights are in terms of only illuminating about 10-15 feet ahead of the car. I want to improve this as it's extremely irritating, but I don't know whether this is best a...
