[Mk2] [NA] Lack of Light

Post by mr2mike »

Hi guys,

I haven't been driving my car in the dark much until recently, so I've only just noticed how pathetic my cars standard headlights are in terms of only illuminating about 10-15 feet ahead of the car.

I want to improve this as it's extremely irritating, but I don't know whether this is best achieved by simply fitting different bulbs or if I need new headlamp units.

I'm sure you all must've experienced this as well so I await your words of wisdom.

Thanks.

The standard headlights are pretty rubbish. You can put some brighter H4 bulbs in (Halfords 150% ones etc). Some people fit Raybrig lenses which help a bit but aren't strictly legal.

If it's just the distance in front of the car you're trying to adjust then there are some screws in the headlights to realign them. If you look around the edge of the lens there should be 2 channels in the black shroud that have rusty crosshead screws in, you can loosen the bottom one to angle the light slightly further up. If you do it too much you'll irritate other road users though :)

UK spec cars have an adjuster dial inside the car for raising the headlights too.

Hope that helps :thumleft:

No, I wash the car with the headlights raised so as to clean the road grime from them.

I'm loving the light being put out in that photo. Mine just give off a really weak yellow light.

How can I get hold of some "Osram Nightbreakers" and are they legal?
