Re: 255 40 17s ?
Dammit I should have read my post properly before submitting and going away for a week :) My car isn't mistreated with dumb tyre sizes!! I typed 225, I meant 2 5 5 Actual tyre and wheel sizes: 17x8 et32 with 215/45R17 on the front (Falken 452) 17x9 et38 with 255/40R17 on the rear (Falken 912) The fr...

Re: 255 40 17s ?
My MR2 has 17x9 et38 rears with 225/40/R17 as well, but it has never rubbed, and it's still on stock suspensions.
It's possible that the components are the originals that shipped with the car, but they perform fin and are balanced across the axles so I'm happy enough.

Sorry to resurrect, but I had missed the reply to this one.

I'm on stock original non-lowered suspension and non-rolled arches as well.

These sizes fit on my 1991.
Front wheel is proud by
~3mm, but 215 tyre is stretched a little bit and there's no rubbing.
No rolling or other modification was done either.

17x8 et32 with 215/45R17 on the front
17x9 et38 with 255/40R17 on the rear.

Re: metallic ringing sound at partial throttle
It's possible that you have a cracked heatshield, that resonates at particular engine loads or rpms. I have this in our '2 but it's a devil to try to resolve without disassembly. I'm tempted to have a go at bridging the crack or adding some foil to the heatsield to change the frequency it resonates ...

Re: What do you hate about mr2 ownership
For me it's the difficulty of getting sane insurance for the car in Ireland, as a second car. My primary car is an A4 diesel barge ;) and all of the ripoff merchant insurers here look at my +8 years NCB on the A4, and say "that second car will have to be a seperate new policy, that'll be >1000...

Re: Noise at 3000rpm
It's also possible that a heatshield has had a break or crack in it, such that the shield resonates though all of the attachment bolts are tight. Once this kind of failure happens, the crack will elongate until either it no longer resonates or it falls off. I've seen this on a Passat diesel turbo/ex...

Re: Xenon look sidelight bulbs - where from?
I got a pair of these for the A4: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270349895986 They are cheap, but they work fine. If I wanted to change the angle of visibility of the LEDs, I could drop transparent epoxy drops onto the LEDs and gently sand them then. They're the same colour...

Re: Tyres
From my experience of the Goodyear F1 gsd3 tyres on my A4 (205/55R16), they are fantastic in the dry and above average in the wet, *until* they get to about 3.0 to 3.5 mm of tread left, then they started tramlining and wandering all over the road on me. The pressures were the same all of the time - ...

Re: New possible owner, with some questions ;)
Thanks for the responses, it's good to get a bit of feedback. Most of the stuff that isn't perfect is either livable-with or else it's reasonably easy and cheap to fix. The main bits and the stuff that is pricey to fix all seem to be okay (touch wood). The foglights will be converted to HID bulbs, a...

New possible owner, with some questions ;)
Hi everyone. I've been lurking for the past while as I've been researching the MR2, as I have an option on what appears to be an unmolested Mk2 rev1 3sge MR2 in pretty good nick.. The car was imported from the UK to Ireland by a mate of mine last year, and he is selling it on as it doesn't get drive...
