front wing repairs,opinions please

Post by stephen brooks »

hi, am currently making repair panels for the rear arches and was wondering if the time was right to tool up to do similar parts for the front?my questions are:-
are front wings still easy to get?
if not how far up the wings would the repair panels need to go?
is it just the bottom of the wings that rot or does the wheel arch go as well?
any other suggestions happily received, thanks in advance,Steve :-k

Not worth repairing the front wings IMO - they are pretty easy to replace, probably a days work on the whole (providing you buy the right colour etc...)
"If in doubt - just make the numbers up!" ;)

New front wings are still available from Toyota for around £110 a side, or fibreglass ones for half that from Honeybourne mouldings, so the cost fitting repair panels would make them uncompetitive.

Hi, if your looking to produce a repair panel have you thought about the rear lower valance. Either the lower part of the valance or the two ends where they meet the arch return corners. To my knowledge no one produces these so should sell well.

I have just found my Invoice from 23/10/06 when I did my front end refurb, I bought two wings bumper bar and a valance plus retainer bits. The cost of the wings was £88.27+VAT, with 15% discount hope this helps someone :thumleft:

I would have thought a repair secction for where the front wing meets the valance would be helpful (and cheaper) then replacing the whole wing?

The cost of buying the repair panel getting it welded in would be more than a new wing though

Really? what makes you say that. I'm sure there are plenty of competent diy welders out there who would relish a repair option.

trouble is a panel that is rotten in one section is often just about to fall apart everywhere
I'm sure you would find once you had bought a repair section then removed your wing, you would agree that a whole panel is the best option

Yes - I'm sure that situation arises. However from experience I've a mk1 wing once need repairs to the area by the valance and once aft of the wheel arch where it connects to the A pillar - both times the rest was fine. However I alsso have replaced wings that were like sieves!!

Another 2 votes (Cassi & me  ) for the honeybourne wings, they're well made and need a bit of faffage to fit but otherwise no problems.
