[Mk2] [Turbo] 200mph

Post by Tasty »

Hi peeps , just heard that Sahid has cracked the 200mph barrier in mr2 with standard gearbox . Now how many people here thought , like me , that our top speed was governed by our gear ratios . Well it seems , given the power the box is good for over 200mph . Now , seeing that he and my beast are intrinsically linked , I just had to ask him , I had to didnt I , what would mine be good for . 175-180 , imagine that eh , christ it feels halfacrown and sixpence at 140 . Well peeps I just had to share that with you good folk . :D :D :D

Well it all depends on how high the car will rev doesn't it? If it's powerful enough to pull, say, 8,500rpm in 5th then I dare say 200mph is quite possible. However if your engine won't rev that high then it won't matter how powerful it is at lower revs, it will still be restricted by the gearing.

yes, that would be the one.

And i agree nice guy to talk to, no issues with him in that respect, but i don't believe everything i hear, especially when its talk about 9 sec runs because that was exactly what the lies were about last time.

This is exactly why I'd rather await actual proof. :+:

lol thought so,

if the rumours are true his new build should be capable of something special, will be good to see it go at TOTB this year. Could be another good year if all the cars perform well again

The gearbox is good for 200mph.

If you change the final drive to the one out the Celica st165 i think... its got taller ones.

It will do 198 at 8500k.

So yes it will do 200mph....

But it will be limited to the gearing

Rev limit/tyre height and gearing all have an affect.

A bone stock gearbox will go to 300 mph if the engine can rev high enough! :clown:

i done the calculations when i topped 8000 rpm in 5th in mine to make sure i was not spouting rubbish, and based on std mr2 turbo gearbox ratio's with 225/50/15 tyres on the back then 8000 rpm is 181 mph
so with more revs 200 is acheivable especially with bigger tyres aswell
