Whats this connector for?

Post by BMR2L »

This is the dashboard cover in case it isn't obvious. At first I didn't think the button thing was original but now seen a couple on auction with the same thing.

Pretty sure my car doesn't have one or anywhere to plug into either despite being almost the same age as the one this is off.

Cheers

Bit of a guess but is it the overspeed buzzer fitted to JDM cars?

It's found on a few of the SC's.

IIRC, it's a rain sensor for variable intermittent wipers.
Or a light sensor of sorts...

Can't fully remember, but definately not found on UK cars.

I figured it might be a light sensor. Quite advanced for 1989...

Its definately nought to do with the speed chime, thats inside the dash, or it was until I ripped it out and chucked it in the bin....

It's something to do with the Climate Control that is only found on some SC models. My best guess is a light sensor but I've never bothered to test it.

It's a sun sensor I think, for the climate control. My MK2 and the GT4 had sensors like that, so that it can turn the air con up when the sun is out.

Spot on. In the wiring diagram under auto-aircon there is a thing called 'nisshya sensa' or solar radiation sensor (had to ask the wife for that one!).

I have auto-aircon so maybe I've got somewhere to plug it into after all.

Its rainy season here at the moment so not much sunshine around. Pity Toyota didn't develop a sensor for the puddles collecting in my door pockets. :?

Light sensor

There is one on my JDM supercharger, but it never seems to have been connected to anything. I thought it might have been to dim the dashlights or something.

After reading this post i thought id go have a look at mine, seems i have one too and its connected up.
just doing some measuerments on it to check its working

using a DVM.
420 k ohms across the two wires
and when i cover the sensor the resistance is 383 k ohms.

as it reads a difference it shows that its doing something at least..
i would be interested to know if this is correct,or someone can show similar results....
