i was just reading another thread about oil, having looked into it it would apear 10w-40 is the listed, but 5w-40 is the best suggested by

"educated" enthusiasts.

as far as air filters go, my weapon of choice is the apexi.

dependant on the engine you have which with my limited knowlege will be either 3sge

(150 fbhp ish) or economy 3sfe

(120 fbhp ish) will dictate the orientation and replacement induction tubing you may choose to install it with.

sw20 relates to the body style and setup, the americans have a sw21 i believe which is the economy version using the 3sfe engine.

if you have the 3sge, you can install the apexi simular to how i did, which will keep the filter dry and provide a good cold feed.

heres a little link to some pics of it, page 2 in the discussion and your engine should look something like mine

(maybe less dirty) and with a tube and boxes in place where my induction is.

if its the 3sfe then it will take some more adjustment and look different.

lsd didnt come as standard so i doubt you would have it, especialy on an earlier mr2 like mine

(i have a j reg too) somone else who has one may be able to discribe how to identify.

common faults.

.not thinking as your driving at speed.

seems to be the first one that happens, but you look to have experience so i shant start with that.

noise

(typicaly knocking) from the front end, this would be bushings or more commonly the droplinks for the suspension.

they wear out and on a car of its age its worth jacking her up to see if theres any play on them.

parts are reletively cheap within the mr2 community but be sure not to buy bottom dollar without looking into it first as sometimes they dont last.

i would check the service life of the belts as i changed all of mine when purchasing the car a year ago.

.

.the air con belt had a hole in and the alternator belt was thread bare.

this will also help keep the battery charged.

.which is my current failure, i need a new alternator as its not providing enough to charge the battery.

all small things realy but worth orientating yourself around the car for.

mod are down to your preference and finances i suspose.

most people di the typical wheels, steering wheel, induction, stereo and lowered springs.

but the mr2 is a very versatile car with a suprising amount of mods available.

the more extreme being swaping your engine for a tasty v6 or turbo.

trawl the site and im sure you will find

(like i have

) lots of answers
