[Mk2] [Turbo] Quietest aftermarket exhaust

Post by GarethK »

Hi,

My Rev2 turbo currently sounds like a tractor thanks to a hole in the std silencer. I'm looking for replacements, and stainless systems are far easier to get hold of than standard, though I'm not particularly into noisy exhausts. I've seen a few aftermarket options which are very loud due to the short run and single silencer. I'm still looking for a std exhaust in good condition if anyone has one.

Of the aftermarket systems available, which do you guys find the quietest? I'd prefer to stick to twin exit if possible.

Cheers

My berk exhaust with cat still in place isn't too loud.
Do a search on youtube for mr2 exhaust and you get to see video clips of them is my advice.

LOL not at all - I just know that is the one that gets through the strictest track day testing limits, when most of the aftermarket tubby ones struggle. :)

ive had a blueflame on my car before and it wasn't much nosier than standard, a bit throatier on full revs but for general driving it would be perfect... :thumleft:

No offense mate, but I've driven a tubby with a Blue Flame and it's the most annoying, resonant exhaust note going.
I would avoid this exhaust. Just my opinion :)

Fujitsubo Legalis R, HKS 'Turbo', HKS Silent High Power, Departure 2 (not pro) are all very quiet.

Berk is pretty quiet at cruising speeds, but windows down is seriously boomy. One of best sounding overall, though :thumleft: and great quality

All the above comments are based on actual experience :thumleft: :D

p.s. my HKS 'Turbo' exhaust might be for sale at some point if you're interested? It's in fair condition so the price will be reasonable :D

I had the rare 5Zigen *twin* exit before it fell apart. Nice and quiet, much less boomy than the Mongoose that replaced it. Only trouble was that it rusted like hell...

Oh, and my tractor is very quiet thanks! (for a 6 litre turbo)

are you sure?? did you have a cat still fitted or is there 2 types??

I have De Cat + Blueflame and its loud as fook on low and high revs. Ticking over vibrates all the surrounding houses. Person that lives about 6 house lengths away said he thought his boiler was acting up as it was vibrating at 5.30 every time he got out the bath untill he relised it was my car ticking over on the turbo timer after I got in from work at 5:30 each night   LOL

I love the noise of the Blueflame, Full throttle just sounds amazing with it!!

My TRD Backbox i have for sale is the quietest ;)

haha no really it is. it looks identical to a standard turbo backbox but it has larger exit pipes. Has a slightly different noise to the standard box to.

to be fair the cat was still in place, weird how i thought it was quiet yet other's think it's noisy, probably best to avoid.... :-k

I would avoid it if you want a quiet exhaust. I'm not slating the Blue Flame, I just found its resonant drone at low (normal driving) revs really annoying. Give it beans and it sounds awesome :thumleft:
