T1-R tires for a track day???? comments welcome!

Hi all,

Ive got a track day coming up at Donnington Park (quite a quick circuit) and the only tires i have at the moment are TOYO PROXES T1-Rs.

I've heard about the soft sidewall stories and agree totally (my g.f. has them on her Corsa and the side walls are squishy even on that!)

However on my MR2 i'm running 16" staggered wheels with 205x45 and 225x45 tires on - any clue how these will perform on track? Would their handling still be so poor even with a 45 profile tire?

Any thoughts or experiences would be appreciated

well...no need to panic...they'll be fine & if it's wet they'll be great.
They will however offer less dry grip than other tyres eg Eagle F1 and much much less than track day tyres like R888 and may overheat if you push them very hard.

At the TOC trackday in 2004 I saw a chap in a white tubby kill a set of T1-Rs within the day. However it was at Bruntingthorpe and the track is somewhat abrasive.

I've run T1-S' on track (Tarmac) in the Mk1 and they stood up to it very well.
