If thats when registered in the UK - then it must be a contender. :)

Something not quite right. The MR2 didnt go on sale in Japan until June 1984 and in UK 13 March 1985.

What is the VIN? Mine was registered 15 March 1985 and the VIN ends in 00011874.

As above, the Mk1 didn't go on sale in Japan until 8/6/84, or 13/3/85 in the UK ( on a B plate )

Methinks DVLA have screwed up, or the original importer put the wrong date on the paperwork

theres an early mk1a that comes to the garage now and then with the chassis number ending 0000244.

I believe the very earliest ones were white on northern irish plates.

I think the early press cars wore NI plates (IXI numbers) but these plates were taken off them when they were sold by Toyota Press Office. One of the reasons *I think* was that they had previously been registered and run in Japan, so would have been on "A" prefix plates (possibly even "Y" suffix?).

I believe there may have been a white car on the press fleet, but most were 2-tone "Sherwood Tuning" (Sherwood Toning?).

The records I can find for your car show A424RUM as imported in 1999 and with a chassis number 3568 - it looks like it probably was a very early car in Japan!

If thats the case then the boot spoiler and side skirts were added latter as they wasnt standard fit for the first cars. Cant see from the pic but has it got a sunroof.

Nope - they were always available as options, and standard on the G-Limited, even from the first production cars

No it is the rarely seen Tin Top. :thumleft:
The last owner had added the skirts.
Really strange as they are held in place by cable ties

The car has had money spent on, but the engine is spent
 suprising as it has only done 137,000km = 85,000 miles
So will be having the 3sgte engine,
from my Tubby (I bumped at Anglesea)

Is there a list anywhere of the oldest living 1a's ? Mine's chassis no: 37503 so there can't be too many older than him left.
