[Mk2] [Turbo] Which ECU?...

Post by Rixx »

Hi there,

I bought a used OMEX 600 series ECU about 18 months ago from a guy on piston heads. What can I say - it was a dud. Currently undergoing my MR2 project and sent the ECU to OMEX for a firmware upgrade (I never tested/used this before) - where OMEX reported all sorts of problems with it.

Lesson learned - check everything!!

Going forward, I need to buy another ECU and have been out the game for too long. Not sure how much I should spend.. Can anyone recommend a decent ECU to get me going plz? (Don't want to spend 899 for a motec m4!) My mods are listed below and preferably looking to run fully sequential..

Any advice is appreciated! :thumleft:

if you dont want to spend £899 on an ecu, then you are not going to get much at all.

anyways, i could have sworn motec was in more like the region of £1500-£2000 !!

PFC with commander 2nd hand are around £600 and there no where near as capable as a motec!

You need to look at this from a different angle..

The ECU is the brain of the car. it will control every single last little bit of money that you have put into the car (well engine wise anyway). Therefore, you will want the best ecu you can get for your setup! and to get that, you will need to spend £850 ++ You wouldn't buy a ferrari and let a monkey drive it would you!!

speak to your local trusted tuner and see what they suggest, after all, its them that will have to map it.

Link G3 is not fully sequential. Not that that is really that important to be honest. Won't make a jot of difference to top end power, might get a fraction more in terms of mid-range economy that's about it.

Thanks for the reply fellas... really useful!

Definitly looking into whats been mentioned i.e.

Power fc, Link G1/G3 and also Haltech..

Has anyone heard of or had experience with Haltech ECUs?

Also what is the difference between the Link G1 and G3?

Cheers!
