[Mk2] [NA] Brake Upgrade

Post by keith030458 »

I have a 1990 Mk2 GT coupe that i want to give a little more braking power to, I believe that later models and turbo's have larger discs and calipers, so my questions are...Do these lager discs and calipers fit as a direct replacement i.e can I just buy the larger items and fit them direct without having to modify anything ? and the second question is , Will this mod make a very noticeable difference? Oh just thought of a third question, My car does not have ABS does this present any problems with fitting later calipers and what has to be done to fit ABS capability to my car?

You can fit Rev2+ discs and callipers with no problems, but you can't keep the 14" wheels if you still have them.

AFAIK - adding ABS is a lot of work... off the top of my head you will need :

Hubs with ABS rings and sensors
ABS pump
ABS ECU
Wiring loom
Additional brake lines

Sounds like a lot of effort to me. Discs and callipers is easy though ;)

I thought that was the case, thanks for the info, really all I want to do is keep the car relatively original i.e lookswise but just up grade little things such as the brakes , lights , suspension and then just bring the engine back to a good conditions , then just to maintain the whole thing
