[Mk2] [NA] Sold Up - Now Drive Civic Type R - Forum comment

Post by Barney »

Hey All

Havent posted for a while, but always an active watcher on IMOC.

Just to say I have sold by MR2 n/a, she was getting old and needed something a bit more reliable and something that kept its colour !

Bought a Civic Type R.

Just to let you guys know this forum is awesome, really helpful, informative, good banter and humour.

The CTR forum on the other hand, wow, dont know how to describe it politley, arrogance is not strong enough. Newbies get killed on first posts, they cant take any crisitism or joke.

Anyways I maybe back again in a MR2 sooner rather than later...

Check out http://www.civiclife.net - a mate of mine runs it, and its not as bad as the mainline civic clubs. Still get cained if you want to buy a civic as a run about though. :-k

Very true, did look at a few Tubbys...wasnt many decent ones about in my area and havent found a decent mechanic yet !!

I can see that'll get bored of the Type R, very soon...good car, solid, tight driving, quickish and fun to drive. CTR drivers go on about the engine noise in VTEC buts it is naff all compared to the MR2. The driving position is too high and weird steering feel, seems to be driven by Chavs.

But drive the car hard (ie Rev the boobs off it) and it accelerates well and keeps going, no lag, sticks to the road and screams...

Its quick but not  .

haha quality.

I gotta admit, having just rebuilt a 1.8 vtec, the system is so simple, yet bloody effective!

What CTR is it? Im assuming EP3 in which case yes its not going to set the world alight compared to an EK9. I know its only natural that 99% of people here will badmouth another car type - it happens on all forums. I will be getting my MR2 very shortly (already arranged - just waiting) and yes it is a run around so I dont have to use my crx every day. I know what you are saying about the noise in vtec on an EP3 CTR - its too refined but trust me in the right car its a different ball game. I have a B18C in my crx and the noise when it hits vtec is absolutely insane and id love to see any other natural aspirated 1.8 keep up with it. This isnt a dig at all as ive already mentioned that im getting an mr2. Just my way of saying, dont judge something until you've tried it properly. The reason im getting this MR2 is that the owner is so desperate for a crx that hes giving it to me plus money for my other non vtec crx.

B18C4 is what I've just built. The noise is good, but so is the ACIS on the Rev1/2 MR2. Especially when coupled with a nice filter.

The new i-vtec in the accord et al is b0ll0cks. Doesn't go by any of the previous vtec rules of life. [-(

I completely agree. Modern i-vtec, although a superb system, is way too refined and lacks that thrill of the old school system. Mine is mated with a 2.5inch straight through (under the tank) system and the noise is phenomenal - not for the faint hearted. This will be boosted shortly anyway. My MR2 will be a non turbo mk2. I assume a rev1 seeing as its a 1990 uk model. I know very little about them yet as all my experience is in building Honda engines and turbo conversions.

You'll have fun with the n/a.

My mate is intent on getting a GT28RS on his B18C. We're confident it will be well matched for what he wants. You got any links to your conversions that I can forward to him?

The RS being the roller bearing turbo? Just make sure he's very careful with the lubrication for it - easy to destroy and not cheap. I personally use a T3 Super 60 although on the B16 it was perhaps a little laggy - I have a new one now but am yet to finish the turbo conversion on the B18. I havent really got any pics or anything - once I get into something, I forget the pics. I will take some when I complete the conversion on this engine.

C50 - we're not all big headed on there - some of us spent our entire lives helping others on there. I never ever turned anybody down for help. You have to give it a chance on there as it really can be a great forum - I left for other reasons. From a handling perspective the 17's were never suited to the crx  but its what you want and not what anybody else wants. Depends what you use your car for.

Would you mind sheding the light on what methods you're using for water and oil outlets/returns from the engine to the turbo?
