[Mk2] [Turbo] Tein Super streets - now fitted with Feedback

Post by spannerman »

New suspension is required on Rev3 Tubby, current stock setup is really crashy, think the springs have sagged + they're just worn out. Also possible they are almost running on the bump stops so when hitting a bump its not good :(

Originally wanted Yellow Billies and Eibach springs but having looked into the Tein Super Streets I'm leaning towards these.

Apparently spring rates are:-

Front 3kg/mm
Rear 5kg/mm

I hope I'm correct in thinking this will provide a nice compliant ride. I live in West Yorkshire and the roads are an absolute mess.

I've not known any other suspension setup on the 2 other than Stock so if these are a better ride and no doubt make the car feel more positive then I'll be happy.

Interested to hear any views of owners running Tein Super Streets, please?

How is turn in after fitting?

Traction under braking etc?

Cornering lean?

Kind regards

Spannerman :D

Bah, get a set of Silk Road RMA8s instead. Mainly because I want to know what they are like for use in the uk.

Super Streets are one of the best mods I did to my car hands down.

Get from Rogue Motorsport. They deal with UK roads pretty well - you need to make a concious effort to avoid drains & 'craters' in the road!

If you have the money - do it.
Running: 313.8BHP @ fly and 285lb torque on 1.15bar.

Thanks for your info Guys, once fitted I'll post up my feedback.

Gonna swap anti roll bar bushes whilst I'm at it also.

If you can splash out on poly sus. bushes go for it as well -I think Rogue's prices were very competetive. Can't remember how much they were.

OK, Tein Super Streets fitted and Polly Anti-roll bar bushes and I'm really happy with them.

The Tubby now turns in quicker with less input needed from the steering and it all feels more planted and much more predicable.

I havn't had much of a play with the settings, currently running on 12clicks back from fully hard (the start point the manual recommends).

As for ride comfort its almost like they have a mind of their own. Hit the little bumps at slow speed and it absorbs them well, yet when you start pushing the speed its nice and stiff with minimum body roll.

All in all, a very compliant set up.

Comfortable with the bumps, pot holes etc then firm enough when carrying more speed into the corners. They have certainly increased confidence in the car, feels much more planted.

Highly recommended as many of your have said previously.

Thanks very much guys :)

I went for the poverty setup and used the standard top mounts.

As for improvement, the ride is no longer bouncy just firm and compliant.

Highly recommended.

Reference the metal top mounts: strictly speaking they are more of a race circuit type unit the metal gives greater feedback of the road and wheels and are more compliant making the ride a touch harder. Having said that as the name suggests,Tein Super Street, are designed for the street and have a lower spring rate as described In the feedback from Spannerman.

If one Is using the MR 2 as an every day car and perhaps the odd sports day then I think the stock top mounts will be fine and a bit softer on the rougher roads. If going this way I would consider buying new OEM rubber stock units say from JeffD, here who might supply them at a lower price than Toyota? Other good choice Is TRD, rubber top mounts they are slightly harder up rated over the stock OEM rubber mounts.HTH. :)

You have built a solid base foundation, and wise to do so! One can update other parts later as funds allow! :D
