just a quicky what is the thickness of the steel on a mk1 panel ?

Depends where - some bits are very thin indeed, while others are 1mm or more

motor factor carry small sheets in 0.8mm and 1.2mm the former is usual for bodywork repair

hi,we use 0.8mm for the wheel arch repairs and 1mm for sills.i think what is used originally for these parts is much thinner so it can be pressed out in one piece.

I have just repaired some rusted panels, using the steel cut from an old dishwasher... :oops:

plenty rigid, yet mallable
