Mine was fairly straight forward, you just need to know if you have a passive or active system, purchase the correct ISO adapter, connect two of the sets of wires into it (the ones that fit, you will have a 3rd but this might not be the set you have called 3rd in your post) and the job should be a good un! :thumleft:

I did have one spare set of wires and was told these weren't needed (something about an extra aerial in the front screen)

Thats how it was when I did mine, I had a double din unit and was wiring a new unit into a Rev 3 Turbo.

ISO adapter was bought here:

Oh, that doesn't sound good.

Sorry I can't help then, that £30 doesn't seem like money badly spent to me, I know what I'd be doing in your situation!

If someone can indicate which is which wire that would be handy for me, I had a new stereo fitted to mine and since then the battery runs down if I leave her unused for more than 4 days....

Easy answer, go back and get them to check the work, unfortunately the Jap car specialist has now left and hasn't been replaced....Money refunded though so not a huge loss.

I'm happy to sort it out myself, but I'm not clear which wire is which on the 2 cable groups that don't seem to be connected to anything at the moment.

Stereo works fine though, so something must be plugged in the right place, I suspect there is an open circuit or something...

If nobody knows which wire is which by colour coding, does anyone know of a good audio specialist in the Twickenham/Richmond/Kingston area?

Cheers

think even if you do not have the upgraded sound system there is still a small toyota amp.
This will need a remote wire to turn it on before it will work.
Sorry can't help anymore.

you know what afennell you could be right :-k that would explain why none of them work. i tested stereo on another speaker just in case i was sold a duff unit from ebay, but all outputs worked fine wiring diagram ive been looking at is for a uk & european and aussie car with premium system 1 sub but i dont have sub. theres a red and black wire but that states on the wiring diagram that wire is amp power control what do you think should i connect this to blue remote wire off back of stereo the one you use to power up amps. i think it carrys about 3 volts if i remember rightly. ive fitted loads of stereos last car i had done install myself 2 amps 15" sub all the nice fuses and a power cap looked the nads and im stuck big time with this very annoying for me have to try after work tomorrow if it stops raining that is :thumleft:

Give it a go, even if it is the wrong wire you will only be connecting it to a speaker wire so nothing to worry about.
I had the same problem with my first rev1 mr2. The stereo wiring was a mess.
Is you Arial going up, think that needs a remote as well.
Stick with it you will get it going and it will feel great. :thumleft:

Had a similar problem in mine.
If you have an active system (sub behind passenger seat) then there are NO negative speaker wires to the Headunit, they are earthed through the amp.
The best thing you can do is re-wire the car, just use the live, switched live and earth from the cars loom and wire the speakers direct from the head unit

Hi
My car is a 1990 G-Limited with the active system ,but only one sub behind the passenger seat , and a single white plug behind the dash ,and with the AM aerial running down the windscreen
I have fitted an aftermarket stereo using the aftermarket loom adapter as can be bought for the active system (cant remember the part number ) This is how the wires relate to each other from the car, to the adapter and stereo

CAR STEREO
red with silver dots FRONT SPEAKER(RCA)
blue with silver dots REAR SPEAKER (RCA)
brown with silver dots REAR SPEAKER (RCA)
yellow with silver dots NOT USED (BEEP)
white with silver dots FRONT SPEAKER (RCA)
black with silver dots TELEPHONE MUTE
green with silver dots (center of plug) LINKS THE EARTH ON SPEAKERS
brown with silver dots (thicker wire) EARTH
blue with brown stripe and silver dots LIVE
green with silver dots (one side of plug) NOT USED
pink with blue stripe and silver dots AMP REMOTE (needs live)
black with red stripe and silver dots ANTENNA PERMANENT
white with green stripe and silver dots NOT USED
Grey with red stripe and silver dots FUSED LIVE

In summary one side of the plug is the power and the other is the speakers , my speakers didn't work at first until i fed a live feed to the AMP REMOTE ,but i recommend this feed to be switched otherwise you will get a loud thump from the speakers as soon as ignition is switched on,And i used to get a constant buzz from the amp even without the stereo turned on due to a permanent live feed to the amp

Your stereo wires might differ from mine though and this is only a guide as to how mine is wired.
If it works for you might be worth making it a sticky for future reference hope it helps ?
