[Mk2] [NA] How much for a good rev 3 tubby?

Post by tank »

Had my n/a for nearly a year now and have been gripped by mr2 ownership fever. :)

Am looking to buy a turbo in next few months, obviously would like to get my hands on a mint example, low mileage etc rev 3, but looking on here in the for sale section and on pistonheads, there are loads of different prices for what seems to be similar machinery...basically is there an amount i should be looking to spend that should put me in the right price bracket for a minter.

Iv'e seen one i like just not sure whether it good value for money...

thanks

ye sorry was a bit cagey with details, ideally part modified wheels, suspension etc not majorly worried about t-bar/non t-bar...

i saw this http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/221095.htm just not sure as to whether its potentially value for money or not. its just quite a way to go for a look.

My next car is likely to be one of the best i may own, as want to have a good couple of years out of it before i have to start looking at houses etc so would like to make it a good one.

thanks

Personally i would say that car is good value for money. Its MINT, very low mileage, Rebuilt engine which can cost a good £2-3k for parts and labour on its own with what he has had done. interia is MINT, has been well future proofed for tuning!

Id say from 3.5 for an ok example upto 5k for a mint 94 rev3 tubby.

I got mine for £3400 but it did need a bit of tlc, I didnt mine though I enjoy doing the little bits myself to get it up to standard.

Just do your homework and make sure its in good order.

The prices vary a lot. I picked up my slightly modded rev 3 turbo for £2400 plus my G-Limited (worked out to £3800ish in total). It was a fresh import with 68k on the clock. Was in good condition overall but did need a few things sorting i.e dented driver's sill, slightly dull paintwork and worn brake pads. There was no alarm either. I think you have to go above 4000 to get a really good example. Nicely modded ones will tend to fetch a bit more in general.

Id say ring them up now and go and view asap an example like that wont hang around for very long. Haven the engine rebuilt is a MAJOR money saving upgrade. Looks very clean should pull strong etc.

Have you driven a turbo before?? Also Newra Imports are well respected.

You may save yourself 1 or 200 quid off market price but I would say view and see...

Good luck.

My first thought was that it was a bit pricey - but then it looks like its a very nice example and the rebuild plus forged internals is a very good thing to have. As reece said - go have a look.

As to prices otherwise - it seems to me that 4k plus will get you a good example of a rev 3 turbo, of course you could get lucky and net a nice one for less but you could also be getting a bad one that'll really cost you.

Frankly I wouldnt spend any less that 3.5K for a Rev3 Tubby, you buy cheap you buy twice now-a-days. Unless you find a gem of course.

Be selective & you will know what car is right for you. :thumleft:
