[Mk2] [Turbo] ~£500ish to spend on Turbo?

Post by Jonmurgie »

Have just heard that our standard turbo it pretty fooked and the bill will be around £400 for a standard build...

So I wanted some guidence on what other choices there are for our Rev2 Tubby that's just had a brand new engine build (to standard spec) with a budget of around £500ish?

Although the engine has been built to standard spec I'm guessing that once run in it will happily take a decent amount of more boost than a standard CT26 so.

Have checked out the Fen$port site to get a steer on what may be available from a cheaper source but really looking for one of you turbo guru's to point me in the right direction... oh and I need to sort the turbo out ASAP!

So... thoughts?

Used CT20B :thumleft:

Good turbo for a stock motor and can be had for less than £500

Very true... but finding one and a GOOD could be a problem? Is it just a case of keeping a look out on the usual places for a used one or is there an easy(ish) place to nab one?

Some will say yes but i dont really like hybrids, The CT20b would be able to get pretty close to 300rwhp without any problems such as boost creep which some hybrids suffer from, not sure if the ct27 has issues with boost creep though :-k

So if i've got a ct20b (which incidently i have), what is a good upgrade option for me? Would like someting plug and play if you know what i mean.

Sorry if this is a thread hijack but this could help establish which is the best turbo and cheapish.

I;ve just got a ct26 TO4E-54 trim hybrid. It creeps like a nightmare. In ranglings with the turbo people.

The poster should buy a CT20b 2nd hand and have it refurbed for 330fwhp (with supporting mods) and the others should go for the ct27 with the waste-gate single-exit mod. Other than that, a GT2860RS kit from xxxx for £1500 including fitting kit and decat etc.

trust me, I am living te nightmare you could put yourself in. PLEASE get the ct20b and refurb it AS STOCK. Or get a garret unit.

ATS CT27 has 46 trim compressor. They originally had 50 trim as well but it didn't give any benefits over 46 trim. Your 54 sounds way too big...

Keep in mind that CT27 is not a new turbo - it's a rebuild standard turbo and to my experience good quality rebuilds don't have metal chips inside exhaust housing left from the machining or cracked exhaust housing which is what I got from ATS. I have been waiting for the promised replacement exhaust housing over a month and I'm afraid that I will waiting for a long long time...
