Make location mandatoty on the profile?
Would it be worthwhile making your location mandatory on the profile section? How many posts are there here asking where folk are in response to a request for help.
Might have been suggested before -just a thought.

Re: Make location mandatoty on the profile?
As someone who has often asked people where they are, I can see your point.
Unfortunately it'd be very hard to enforce it
- what's to stop people putting the wrong place in? Fact is, if I had a car that had cost me
£20k and was talking about all the bits on it and had photos of it on a publically viewable forum, would I also want people to be able to find out where it lives with relative ease? Whereas, if you post where it in the odd post it may be a bit more difficult for someone to find that information.

So, although some people do just forget to enter that info in their profile, there are possibly people with genuine reasons for not putting it in, and we can't really force them to do it.

Re: Make location mandatoty on the profile?
I can understand security concerns, but to add your county
/ city is hardly telling the world where you live.
Yes, you won't stop liars putting in the wrong location, but I suspect for most people its not filled in out of laziness.

Re: Make location mandatoty on the profile?
Yup, true.

and I absolutely agree.
Unfortunately I just don't think it's something we can enforce, merely advise people to fill in that information.
Which is what people already do anyway.

It is a valid point though.

Re: Make location mandatoty on the profile?
It has been considered before, but people can put whatever they like inthe location category and to be honest we have enough to moderate without getting people to change that.
I agreein terms of selling items, I try to PM people to say put in a location or I put it in the thread, but to be honest its a bit of an unenforceable rule.

As far as looking on public forums and seeing comic answers for the location, it is a giggle but how comforting is it if you are buying something from said member who has his location down as
-
"hiding" or
"anywhere but her" etc etc.

Just makes you question whether the member is legitimate, maybe its just me

But how do we enforce it?

Re: Make location mandatoty on the profile?
Richard, thanks for the suggestion.
Been thinking about this, and we might be able to do something with the first
'half' of your postcode
- that is sufficiently local IMO to be useful in terms of finding out who is local to you, and for the purposes of arranging meets etc.

Worst case, we wouldn't want to keep a full postcode as potentially it could be used to steal a car to order
