[Mk2] [Turbo] what plugs?

Post by boosch »

Slowly upping the boost on my rev2, what plugs should i use? Poyntesm suggests NGK 6097 copper spark plugs in his knowledge base article but i cant find these easily, and the ones i do seem silly cheap for performance plugs?? how many miles should you expect from standard plugs compared to cold grades?

this is the cheapest place to date I've found for plugs.

Stick BKR6 or BKR7 into the search engine to see the various varities, suck as EIX, EVX or EP-8.

It might be worth searching the NGK website to see what the advantages of these are.

*E are just plain copper V groove. Mine seem to be fine after a few thousand miles, but if you want longer life I suspect you'll need to fork out for the Platinums, which are the OE plug (note: they don't seem to do them at grade 7)

You'll have to make sure copper plugs are gapped to 0.8mm (platinums already gapped).

Not sure about the heat range you need, but if plugs are too cold for the engine they will foul up. I would think raised boost would be where a colder plug would be useful to keep cylinder temps down.
