Discussion and technical advice the SW20 MR2. 3S-GTE, 3S-GE, 3S-FE etc
Anything and everything to do with maintenance, modifications and electrical is in here for the Mk2.
right im going to pick up a mr-s (import) on a 2000 plate next week, but i was looking at the stats on parkers and it says that some models will do 0-60 in 9secs (thought that a bit slow to be honest!) and some say 7.7 secs? which one is right are certian models faster then one another? it says the mr2's with "SMT" next to it are the one's that are slower, what is "SMT"? please, as i dont want the slower version! thanks in advance.
Sequential Manual Transmission.
This should help though in the real world their not that much slower. Bolt on a turbo like mine and you'll fly through the gears like no tomorrow! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sequential ... ansmission
from my EXTREMELY limited knolwge
not all imported mr2s have limited slip differential so check on this. all UK cars do!!!
not all have an immobiliser so check on this too.
they are geared more for accleration which is good, but you will be doing more RPMs at motorway speed = slightly poorer fuel economy & slightly more noise
i would doubt an mrs would be doing 0-60 in 9s, think UK mk 3 mr2 does 7.9s so 7.7 for a MRs with the different gearing sounds about right
our 2000 mr-s does 0-60 in about 8 secs, woeful engine in them but they make up for it with an absolutely superb chassis.Im doing an engine conversion on ours as soon as we can,the 1.8 1zz should be renamed the 1zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Probably as in the USA and Japan they got a different close ratio box but no LSD, and in Europe the box we got has longer ratios and a LSD. This means the 0-60 time in the USA is different to the European models.
TBH, 0-60 doesn't tell you the whole story, but if you really need a figure, UK cars have done 7.5ish which is respectably quick.
The Standard MK3 is just as quick as the MK1 NA flat out - I've tested this around a track. Handling wise, it certainly is the best of the MR2s.
Power - Paul, you not tempted to turbo it? Lots of people are doing 2zz swaps if you want to keep NA power.
ive got a rev3 T lump here ben so im going to stick that in,more scope for power upgrades later on....or we might be sticking a v6 into one later on this year.
Totally agree on the handling though, much better than mk1 or 2.
