[Mk2] [Turbo] yet another speedo fault please help

Post by dpbayly »

hi all i have a mk2 rev1 turbo that i brought on monday it has no speedo the previous owner told me it would be the cable but i disconected it at the gear box span it and the speedo moves so its not the cable now i have read that there is another bit on the gear box with a plastic cog that falls apart i cant see what people are talking about what ive done is where the cable goes into a little unit that is held onto the box with a little 12mm bolt i removed this and span it and it all seems ok but i saw no plastic cog' once i removed the little gizmo of the box i looked into the hole were it came from and there was a little pin which i tuged at but would not move i then pushed the car backwards and forwards in the hope that i would see the pin spin but it didnt so im guessing something in my gearbox is broke so what i want to know is where this cog is and if there is something else i can take apart to get to it to and fix it coz its now doing my head in and im hopping i dont have to have the gear box rebuilt to fix it so again any input would be much appreciated :(

thanks Darren

Sounds as if you havent got all of the sender unit out mate. I did exactly the same thing so dont feel silly. It took several emails and some phots from Rogue to convince me of my error.

Sounds as if youve only pulled half the unit out if the furthest in you got to it the shiny pin which sits across a polished chamber of two halves. You'll see that against the gbox is more protruding shapes. The crud around it makes it look like part of the box. You'll see there's a sticky out bit which you can get a good pair of pliers or molegrips on. Do this and pull. The whole unit will withdraw from the box. On the end of the sender you'll now have a much bigger shiny shaft (oo-er!) . On the end of this will be the cog. If there's just a splined end then yes, its come off.

The shaft and cog alone can be ordered from Toyota nd take five mins to refit everything.
