Hello mate,

welcome to IMOC and MR2 ownership.

The light on the corner is the catalytic converter temperature warning light. (There's a sticky thread in the mechanical forum I think).

Basically, it comes on when the cat gets too hot.

What should you do? Drive slowly to your local Toyota dealer.

What should you really do? Take off the exhaust flexi section, and have a look at it.

It could have slipped down and be blocking the zorst. Solution: new cat (expensive), gut the cat (free), or get a cat replacement pipe£100 - £200).

(note: if your car is +1995 you'll be limited by the MOT test)

Or, oil could be getting passed though your engine onto the cat and gumming it up. Does your car smoke on boost? Is there oil in the metal air pipes leading into the throttle body?

A 1994 car should be well clear of the 3.5% CO2 test if it's running well - just make sure the garage test it properly.

I'm trying to recall if that light comes on with the ignition..?

Unless there's a fault with your circuit perhaps?

The sensor is screwed into the side of the cat, very low down. It plugs into the wiring loom in front of the intercooler, also quite low down.

i thought pre 96 turbo cars were tested as non cat as they are an import and have no model report or like for like uk car ?? think there is a sticky somewhere.

^^^^^ What he said.

Two or three lights coming on at once are symptomatic of a bad/low charge. Check the belt first, then the amount of charge getting to the battery. Use a multimeter to check the amount of charge getting to the battery, on fast idle it should be approx 14.4 volts.

well its in the garage, and the noise i heard was the alternator belt snapping which is why the ligts come on, I've also ordered a decat pipe for it.

The radiators got a hairline crack in aswell.

oh well
