I rang my local motor factors yesterday to enquire about inserts. They said they had a pair of fronts in stock (KYB), but i'd need to take mine in to compare as they have 3 different part numbers depending on year, 90,91, or 92!

That does sound strange. My after market Koni kit inserts will fit any Mk2: 89 to 99.
But, it can't hurt to compare(unless you need your car to get there and back!).
