Best make for Rear Tyres
Am hoping to buy some rear tyres this week, wondering if any one can recommend any good brands that I should be looking at?
Re: Best make for Rear Tyres
Intermediates
Goodyear Eagle F1s
Toyo T1-Rs
GOOD
Lauren will be along shortly I'm sure.
But something along the lines of Yoko A048s...

Toni,
Thanks for that, I currently have yokohama's on them at the moment, but i took it out once in the rain, and i noticed how easily the back was sliding out, I think i have lost my trust in Yokohamas?
I think i will look at some Toyo's
Thanks

Just don't get the T1-S, they are very poor IMHO (I tried them for the first time at the weekend).
Yoko AVS I think are also supposed to be good - don't get put off Yokos due to one type. What have you on there atm?

got T1-S did have T1-R
327fbhp and no wheel spinning and plenty of grip. Dont see any point in spending any more money than on these
Re: Best make for Rear Tyres
T1-S felt greasy to me on the handling on Sunday!! Squeeled at only 10 mph on exit from the track, they'd effectively melted in a simple figure of 8. Not a good tyre for performance use, might be OK for general road..

Re: Best make for Rear Tyres
I use proxes T1-S. Seem to give good grip both wet and dry. Never tracked the car on a circuit, but it sounds like they fall over there from what Toni says. i found them fine for drag racing though.
Re: Best make for Rear Tyres
Bridgestone s02 or s03. Michelin Pilot Sports. P-Zeros.
Anything that isn't as cheap as Toyos as you generally get what you pay for with rubber.

Re: Best make for Rear Tyres
Toyos are pretty good on the front from what I've seen. 2 track days, many many thousands of miles, and still plenty of tread left.
On the rears I think the power can give them a bit more of a pasting.
Obviously having your suspension correctly set up is important!

T1R here, great tyre!
Re: Best make for Rear Tyres
I got some Toyo's on the front, and i got to say i am more than happy with them.
It's the rear one's that worry me after losing it in the wet, as all the weight and power is at the back i want to gain as much grip as possible especially if there is any little surface water.
Thanks for all your help and opinons so far?
So recommendations to date:
T1 R - Favourite
Eagle F1
Bridgestone s02
Michelin Pilot Sports
P.S does anyone know anywhere on the web i can read up more on tyres, i know its sad, but i want to get value for my money, that doesn't mean buying the cheapest tyres

There's very little good infomormation on tyres online. I know of a british tyre review website that's in development but that's still a while away yet, i can't wait until it's online!
The s02/s03's are a softer compound than the pilot sports but probably a few quid cheaper. Pilot sports seem to last a fair bit longer than any other high performance tyre i've tried but the silica in the rubber gets quite hard at 3/4 life offering less grip than when new.
T1-R's are regarded as by far the best budget tyre but are just that, a budget tyre. Eagle F1's are widly praised as the best thing no the road (which i've no problems with but i've not tried them myself) but quickly turn to chocolate on track (ie overheat much like the toyos)

Re: Best make for Rear Tyres
Lol. So many different opinions here as always. Just go for a decent brand name and you should be okay.
Re: Best make for Rear Tyres
Got yoko AVS atm, not really impressed, prefer falken 452 tbh
Re: Best make for Rear Tyres
My MK1 has BF Goodridge on the front and Toyos on the back and this has dramtically improved the handling.
The MK2 Tubby runs on Bridgestone Potenzas all round and has really good handling, was very surprised at how good it is even in the wet.

I am going to live forever, or die trying!
Re: Best make for Rear Tyres
G/F's N/A has Toyo T1-S and my turbo has Bridgestone SO3.
The difference in grip is noticeable, especially in the wet.
SO3 or F1.

There are many different types of yokos... obviously some are a lot grippier than others.
Really like the new Yoko S-Drives, have them on my beemer, loads of grip and so far wearing okay. They are not cheap mind. There are also the new yoko advan sports which would be well worth a shot based on previous experience with Advans.
Toyo Poxies are okay for a budget tyre, but as with most things you get what you pay for.
F1s are a good road tyre, S03s are good also if you can get them.

err the tester doesn't appear to be independent.
2020 GR Yaris - Circuit Pack
tyres
have...
dna gt grand prix-yokohama tyres on the rear of my altezza import
210 odd bhp beams engine, rear drive and more weight than an mr2.
came in from japan like that been through winter and can not
get the back out at all, even if i try.
(DNA GT GRAND PRIX-YOKOHAMA?) tread pattern like grb 451 falken
or f1's
front are yokohama-eccose?
for me tyres.suspension and brakes are every thing, for all many reasons.
agree with toni having discussed this with racers and fast road guys
goodyear f1's are hard to beat!
but did they not discontinue them or bring in a new model?
for me for the price and made in japan for all season the grb 451
flaken motorsports series is fantastic, smooth, directional traction,
grip very well,wear well..etc...
some guys say they wear fairly fast, but hey we dont all drive like that.
hth.
