LSD is an option on revision 5 normally aspirated MR2s - BEAMS or otherwise...

You wouldn't happen to know if the UK rev5 has LSD? the owners manual states it does, but it fails the 'turning of the wheel' test - but then so does the Lexus IS200 Sport and that has LSD.

I'll do the wheelspin start test only when me tyres are close to need changing O:)

Try looking in the fuse box at the front !!
If you have no fuse you have not !!

No fuse for LSD.

The stock vicous unit often fails the spin one way see what happens the other end test because the vicous diff needs a slight amount of torque to lock, there's a post somewhere on here detailing exactly why and how to check but i can't find it.

Isn't there a code quoted in the gearbox type no. that tells you if LSD is fitted?

It should be fairly obvious if you have an LSD or not. Put full lock on the steering wheel then dump the clutch, if you end up pointing the other way then you have LSD. Is easier to try on damp/wet tarmac.

I must say though i reckon there would be far less accidents with MR2s if they didn't have an LSD.

I would have thought thats a bit harsh on the drivetrain etc. so wont be trying it (im a mechanically sympathetic sort of guy :D ).

In the snow (which seems to serve to just exaggerate car movement / control) I can get the car spinning virtually on its nose (horizontally, not vertically...) though this doesnt really say too much.

I would agree with LSD's causing accidents comment, though not through experience thank fully.....

Do it in the wet, its not that harsh. Or on grass. My Mk1 used to spin on the spot pretty much on wet tarmac.

And thats why I still cant work out why race cars have LSD.

Driftg and drag yeah, but otherwise why? If it's so easy to do the above?

Without getting all technical an LSD will give you more traction than an open diff hence race cars having them 8)
