MR2's in Portsmouth Dockyard

Post by gordy.r »

I have been working in Portsmouth recently, and more so in the Naval Dockyard itself, and on a day to day basis i must see at least 5 or 6 MR2's driving around or parked up in the dockyard.
Not to mention the number of MR2's in Portsmouth itself, im amazed, it's like a spotting hotspot for mk2's down there!

Anybody on here the proud owner of a dockyard MR2???

Not in the dockyard but drive past it everyday! I live in Southsea but know what you mean about the amount of 2s around!

Just a shame none seem to be enthusiasts though.

Yep, me! Red 1989 Mk1b. Lowered 10mm, sporting 15" OZ Alloys with A539's and 1 missing rear left mud-flap!

Oh, T-Bar too... Clean-ish, but needs a rinse...

Now that you say that, i think i did, i was in a red Smart Roadster (probably going sideways on the road out of Halmatic  ).

There is a house just around the corner from there before you get to Port Solent that has two MK2's in the driveway.

It's a shame there are not more pompey people on here, the city is jam packed with MR2's !!!

Well over on mr2oc Mick (Topgun) organises meets for the south central region, and we often meet at Queen Elizabeth Country park. There was one a few weeks back, and when the weather gets a little better i'm sure we'll have another soon. Everyones welcome!

What's the Roadster like bud??? Been tempted to buy one on many occassions. Friendly MPG and great B road handling...

Hey there,

They a cracking little cars! Lack the power band that an mr2 has, but as you say, for B roads they are fantastic and are really grippy, and the fuel economy is fantastic (they say 50 odd miles to the gallon, im sceptical....)

Can be a nightmare to get in and out of in confined parking bays due to the length of the doors, but the electric hood is sweet and they get a lot of attention from passers by.

Luggage space is also not too bad if you travel light, just as good as an mr2 really.
