Ladie MR2 Drivers

Post by Ridge Racer »

not being sexist or anything in anyway but i seem to notice theres alot of older'ish woman who own mr2's? i don't know if its just my area but i rarely see one being driven by a bloke

reason i bring this up is just abit of general curiousity and also this ladie popped into my work today and needed a hand carrying some things to her car, i got out the door thinking oh god wait for it... ford KA....

but no... it was in fact a abolutly stunning, all original Mr2 mark 2 anniversary edition to that point i speedily headed over to the car for a little lookie it was stunning, blue, late rev, all standard (Even the alloys)

i then proseded to do my job then i started chatting to her about it, and then after abit pointed to my mark 1, she looked at me rarther blankly i don't think she knew what it was  i felt abit silly and let her get on her way

very very nice car though, i kept my eye out for the IMOC stickers but no joy as usual :(

Not meaning this in a bad way as i myself own an mr2 but are they not seen to be kinda girly anyway? I told the guys in my work i was getting one and they laughed and said "hairdressers car"

Take from it what you will, i don't mind a bit of flack i got the car coz i wanted it and i don't really care about other peoples opinions of it.

Nah, you're getting confused. The Mx-5 is a hairdressers car ;)

I have an mk1 mr2, but i'm a young(ish) female (well, if 24 counts)

I can't see why people would say the mk2 was girly. I can totally understand if they were to say the mk3 was a girls car, with it's small cute shape and it's rounded front lights and soft top roof. Over here in N. Ireland I have yet to see a female driving a mk2. MY girlfriend says she likes my mr2 but would never buy one because they look too masculine. Maybe that's just because mine's black and lowered with big wheels and she associaes that kind of look with blokes rather than girls.

also 99% of the peeps i talk to all think the mr2 has the 119bhp engine (well they say 120bhp)...
none know about the 160-170bhp models, none no about the beams, and none know about the tubbies.....

hense why i think its represented as a slow, nice looking car, hense a girly car....

Couldn't give a monkey ! Comments usually stem from astra / focus .. run of the mill car owners !

There was less than 110 thousand made in its full lifespan of th mk2.

Renos, astras knock them out in one year !

I bought my mk1 of my girlfriends mum. Half the people at work love it the other half thinks its a girls car, but these people do drive astra, vectras and puntos etc...

I must admit 5 years ago i would call the mk1 a hairdressers car until i drove it.

Everyone calls my car a hairdressers car !

And yes a lot of old females do drive them and I know 2 female hairdressers with mark 2s !!!

Even parkers mentions the hairdresser reference - "Well proportioned and well finished, it has been accused of being an easy option and a bit of a ‘hairdresser’s car’. Nothing could be further from the truth. The MR-2 has become a legend in its own lifetime and really has nothing to prove, and most importantly it looks the part."

What can you say !

Mine looks at bit girlie, is owned by a girlie, but def. feels like it needs to be driven hard - not a gentle ladies car
