Alarm de-installation?

Post by mr2_pj »

Ok I have a scorpion aftermarket alarm with no instructions and no keys/blippers the last owner turned it off as it no longer opperated correctly and lost all the bit's that go with it. There is an LED on the left hand side of the passenger's seat that always shines red so:
1)How do I stop the LED being lit all the time?
2)Is it easy to completly remove the alarm system (saves weight/ looks better) and the car to still work at the end of it?
3)Anyone local and good with electrics?? :D

just removed my redundant alarm system, just follow the wires to where the are joined into the harness and cut them out then insulate the bare wires left thats it. I'm no auto electrician but had no problem doing mine just take your time and be methodical

Not sure I've got answers but I'm also in Surrey with Scorpion alarm - area Banstead/Epsom Downs!

Don't you need the alarm? Easy to get replacement blipper. Mr T takes number off alarm and provides for £35 each. That's what i did.

I was concerned when I bought car that I'd not been given key to switch off alarm. Mr T said I don't need key. Not real answer as there's clearly a key slot in the system. Reading further I realised there's different models of Scorpion. On mine it's the cheaper one and there's no battery back up (sounds alarm if you disconnect from battery). So key to switch off alarm is not so essential, providing blipper works OK.

My LED light is on drivers side. Thought they all were. Might be interesting to put them side by side if your close to where I am? Alternatively, there's next Mark 1 South east meet on 6th November in I'll be going to, finishing near Westerham/Sevenoaks?

just be careful stripping it out - my mk1 came with a cobra alarm in it but no key fobs - i just unplugged it from the loom no problems and found the hard way that it had an ignition interrupt wired in!! so to get the car running again i just bunged it back in again until i have time to sit down and trace the wiring out properly!!

Great. Think the Scorpion was dealer fit so lots of MR2's have them but not all. Perhaps explains different site of LED between cars? I have the Scorpion instructions (very brief!) I can copy for you if you decide to try and keep alarm in place. Seems mine is Scorpion model 739 but doesn't say this on alarm itself. Instructions cover model 739 and 759 ...the latter seemingly having a battery back up so goes off if you disconnect car battery. Think it's latter one where you have to have a key to turn off.

Yes look out for me around the Nork/Banstead crossroads area! I'm in white T bar reg G365.

Be great to see you on 6th Nov. Please see events section of forum for details of this South East meet. Or full details from South East organiser Pete at

Can any of you surrey based guys tell me when and where the next south east meet is as when I go on to the events section I can see every other areas events and get an annoying "error 404" message for the south east.

Next time you are at the Nork/Banstead crossways take a look at the local Threshers and see if my mica Mk1 is outside! I live in Tadworth so am just up the road from you. Hopefully We will meet up at some point soon.
